Motorcyclist hits car while traveling at over 100 mph on Route 55 in Mantua Township
Wednesday, November 10, 2010

MANTUA TWP., NJ     A motorcyclist who was allegedly weaving through traffic at more than 100 mph was injured after he crashed into the back of another vehicle on Route 55, police said Tuesday.

A New Jersey State Police trooper running radar along the road clocked the rider, identified by authorities as Wilfredo Negron Jr., 24, of Vineland, at 128 mph prior to the crash.

Negron crashed near mile post 52.8 on Route 55 northbound at approximately 11:25 a.m.

Police said there was no chase, only the driver performing unsafe maneuvering of his Suzuki GSX-R through traffic and, at times, in the shoulder of the highway.

"As a result of that driving, the rider crashed into the back of another motorist operating a Toyota RAV 4," state police Sgt. Brian Polite.

"He actually ended up entering the vehicle he dismounted upon impact and entered through the rear windshield."

The driver of the Toyota was uninjured.

Following the crash, one lane of the highway was closed for approximately 90 minutes for cleanup and then an additional lane was closed for approximately 30 minutes more while an investigation was conducted.

Negron was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with "injuries that did not seem serious at the time of the incident," according to Polite.

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, said police.

Charges are pending against Negron, police said.

That helmet that saved the riders life is now contributing to polluting the human gene pool.

I am against mandatory helmet laws; as an American I believe in freedom of choice based on individual and informed experience.

If that Gixxer rider was not required to wear a helmet, do you believe he had the "gonads" to race that bike on public roads without the false sense of security that youth and the helmet gave him?

Yup, see them all the time, around the college, here.

Of course, thankfully, we are all so perfect that we never drive faster that the speed limit, always drive perfectly safe, NEVER do anything short of brilliant, and were never given a 2nd chance...

Here's a few select quotes from various posts:

Once we got to I-69 we let it all out since traffic was thinner then on the Circle. 90 mph in a 55 isn't so bad is it?

when I am taching 3000 rpm in 5th Iam doing 90 mph,way diferent than my valk.

......doing our usual 80 mph +

Was steady as a rock even up to 90 mph...

Got my new Darkside tire up to 110 MPH today.

Smooth up to 95

Started a barely noticeable wobble at 100

At 105 it was a dangerous wobble that could have had me doing a tank-slapper..

Tried 3 times, and got the same results all 3 times.

Got up to 125 with no wobble but ran out of courage so went no faster.

having an V rating would be cool, but about 110 is about as fast I ever go,

noted then that approx 100-110 mph the bike starts to wobble.

my Valk is very steady from 0-120.

A borrowed Hayabusa. Hit an on-ramp to a freeway merging in at 80 mph. Then I did the only other thing I could do, I shifted into 2nd...hit right around 150 +/- for a couple miles with out a helmet. That was enough to last my lifetime...

Yup, we're always SOOO conscientious, but we sure can pour it on, when someone ELSE is at fault...

Sorry, it just irks me - this group seems SOOO unforgiving, and judgmental, that I could puke. We've ALL done things we shouldn't have, gotten away with things, and just plain got lucky...

Geez...

I agree...we all have our own limits,AND WE HAVE PUSHED THEM!

Some of us learn by reading, some by watching others, but MOST of us have pissed on that electric fence to find out for ourselves.

Be sure to open the face shield of your helmet when you puke, or your vision will be obstructed, and you may crash. Then we will be picking on you for speeding while indignantly puking. It's likely illegal.

Hmm? I see you have everyone grouped together nicely again. Though I would have agreed with you right up until that last remark. And As far a "judgmental" that is a group that YOU are in tight with.

Wow!  What a morning.  I find myself agreeing mostly with Roger, but exactly with Jeff (well, excepting, of course, the dangling preposition).

I think a lot of us could use a little getting over ourselves now and then.   Smiley

My English teacher told me she was going to pass me just to be sure she would not have to see me again. This was a plan that suited both of us. I've got no problem letting my prepositions dangle from time to time. But I am still working on my spelling.  Wink

Exactly.  I believe his specific statement was that he was going to pass me so he wouldn't have to endure another harrowing "under the hood" ride.

A similar thing may have occurred with the motorcycle license examiner.  I believe his words were, "Close enough."

If I were anyone other than me, I don't believe I would ride or fly (or both) near me.   Grin

FYI regarding helmets  Sad 3 fellow Marines had accidents this year

1 st one (no helmet), he was just starting to accelerate on an on ramp, when the bike went squirly and planted him face first into the pavement, fortunetly he was not going to fast and he rolled, he lost a little scalp and some road rash on his face and is recovering nicely

2nd one hit a car that pulled out in front of him on a foggy morning, (No helmet) he has a lot of recovering to do, a lot facial re-construction, he's walking but has some minor motor shill malfunctions

3rd one on the Marine Corp Birthday yesterday on the way to escort the Vietnam moving wall, dump truck pulled out in front of group of 4 bikers, he hit the brakes hard to miss the bike in front of him and it went head over heals - he was wearing a helmet, but it was an unaproved helmet for parades but it did save his life, he still ended up with cracked skull and stiches, but should be able to come home today  Sad

What a way to bring the subject around.
I was one of those idiots.
405 in San Diego just above where it merges into the 5.
Three or four of us, me on a 67 Sporty with shorty pipes, 100 mph at traffic time splitting the lane.
My guardan angel has a drinking problem now and has probably left the building.
I wear all the time now and rarely go over the posted limit.

Hey I recognize some of them quotes!   Cheesy  We'd rather go out riding our last ride then to sit around and drool wishing we could ride again. No helmets for us unless made to then its the novey's.

I was thinking the other day at work as I picked up a head injury type pt. I wonder why helmets are not used in cars or homes? Every shift we pick up folks who have some type of head injury from falling at home or wrecking their car. I havent had a head injury from a MC wreck in a few years, even those w/o one on, but deal with a 100 of them a year from other people. Makes ya wonder.  ???

My life would be ALOT better if I had the brains to begin with and wore a helmet. I would still have all my motor skills, mouth and brain would be connected (at least 1/2 way, like it used to be),The bill for the plastic surgeon would not be UN-FREAKIN-REAL and annoying nerve damage may have been less. I actually believed in 3 kinds of riders.... #1 been down,#2 gonna go down, and #3 ME !  uglystupid2              WRONG !

But I have to wonder how my life would be if I was that kind of cautious, take no chances, always wear a condom in public and never drink from the bottle personality. Would I ever even RIDE ? Would I buy a tank with airbags to drive to work? would I be scared to cross the street and do you know what percentage of hair and mouse droppings the FDA allows to be in hotdogs?

I choose to take my chances,It HURTS and costs a $#IT load when I am wrong but life is too damn short NOT to live it up !  MY CHOICE  ! !
