RJ,  I'm sure you still have vivid memories of receiving notice of your father being KIA on Iwo Jima, even with the years that have passed since that time.  Hope today was a good one for you.  You deserve it.  GJ

Yup, remember the day very vividly.

We had a guy who rode a bicycle for the Western Union.   Gas was rationed at the time.

Back then when you saw him headed up your lane, you knew they were either dead or wounded.    Didn't know till he got there, but mom sensed it and went into hysteric's.     Dad's brother smacked her and she came out of it.    That runs through my mine a lot anymore.   Then my Uncle and I went and put up hay.   I got to drive the horses on the hayrack.

My dad was a Marine at Iwo Jima.  He said that he lost a lot of friends there.

God bless all those that served.

One more comment about this picture.
A moment after this picture was taken a
morter round hit these Corpsman, my father and
one other had left to move a wounded marine
to the rear.
My Dad always said he never understood why them
and not me. He did try to live for the day. Not knowing
when it was your time.
