I had a great day of riding today, especially considering it's November 11th in Michigan. Went out with my friend Dave Montgomery for breakfast in the village of Northville. After breakfast I looked at my trip meter and it said 186 miles. I told Dave that I'm going to see how far I can get before going on reserve; he said I was nuts!

We rode into the village of Fenton for a cup of coffee, then on to the village of Holly, and back through Fenton and Rose Center. Somewhere south of Rose Center my bike began to sputter, but I kept going until it died. The trip meter read 221.2 miles; I swicthed to reserve and it started just fine. We pulled into a Marathon station in the town of Highland and the trip meter read 224.4 miles. So I decided to fill up and reset my tripmeter to zero. It took exactly 4.7 gallons before the nozzle shut off and I was trying to get as much as I normally would. After waiting a few minutes, and helping Dave get his keys that he dropped below his trike, I straightened the bike up and was able to gingerly add another half gallon all the way to the brim.

So by my calculations:
221.2 miles/4.7 gallons equals 47.06 MPG
But another calculation would be:
224.4 miles/5.2 gallons equals 43.15 MPG
Now taking an averge of the two MPG figures we get 45.10 MPG

But i'll take the higher number (47.06) as my best MPG so far this year!
