I have nearly had it happen to me before.  I am sure many of us have.

Generally I ride at the rear of any group I ride with.  Usually it is a group of friends and probably consists of 3-4 bikes at most.   I was riding with my cousin and his wife, who had only recently started riding.  Anyway, I was behind her, my cousin was in front of her, in a no passing zone, hills with long sweeping curves.   I had seen thru the curve and noticed a car coming at some distance toward us, it would not represent a problem on flat ground, but in the curves it might have.

As we started in to the curve I notice the idiot behind me in the left lane trying to get speed enough to pass (underpowered car).  I knew it would be hell on an inexperienced rider and unsafe for all of us, so I pulled over in front of them and blocked the pass (did I mention they were driving an underpowered car).   I held them back until the oncoming car was obvious and pulled back in.  They cussed me all the way to the next town, which was a short distance up the road.  As I pulled up at a four way stop, they shouted their threats.   If you have seen that reality show on TV…IRT Most Dangerous Roads, I think they were from India!  LOL

These idiots would have started the pass, and then tried to take our lane when they realized what was going on.   I am glad I had enough room to do what I did with reasonable safety to oncoming traffic.  I was in real peril of them rear ending me from anger, but it was the right thing to do.

My cousin commented he had not seen that done quite like that before, and he knew what was about to happen and the danger his wife, and for that matter, all of us had been in.

I am glad to have the power to accelerate and stop like the I/S does.  I was prepared to move out of the way if all else failed, but was figuring I would run them off the road if I had to protect the group.

Ride safe…the idiots reign in some areas.

For those that didn't notice it or might've followed the above link before it was added, there was more in another story on the sidebar:

No Contact = No Charges is usually the case.

Sad but true.

Started to post this earlier off of Comcast.

Did not,,,,, in that even riding in a crowd as some people think,,,,,,,,, is safer.

Is false security.

A crowd can wreck just as easily as one.

Visibility only comes into play when the other drivers are not impaired, or actually give a crap.

This just made Fox News Network and the wreck looked horrendous.

Now they are claiming the guy that actually made contact was impaired.

It keeps getting worse as the facts come in.

How sad for all involved.

This is just bad all the way around. I feel especially bad for the riders....  but I can't help feeling angry at the driver of the civic that it sounds like caused all this.    I hope the people who are hurt can recover and I hope the families and friends of the people killed get strength to carry on.

Prayers go out to all of the people involved.
