Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

Broussard, Louisiana

Or at least some wind of some kind.  Got home late Monday evening and spent Tuesday and yesterday shaking jet lag.  Couldn't get any wind in though.  While I spent the last two months in Africa, Traveler spent the last two months in the back yard.  She looked pitiful when I got home.

Bonnie said that Traveler started leaking gas when I left and she had a neighbor push her in the back yard.  The neighbor did put a board under the kickstand and Traveler was partially covered.  Cranked her up yesterday and rode her into the garage.  One look at the alternator cover and I knew that Bonnie wasn't kidding that she had sprung a gas leak.  There was even congealed gas on the engine hanger cover.

So, today I wheeled her out into the driveway and started tearing into her.

Took the petcock off.  The only things I could think of was either when we did the petcock modification (taking out the last of the vacuum lines) in the hotel parking lot at Smokin'Joe's Natchez Trace Ride in Natchez, we may not have gotten a good seal on the o ring at the gas tank.  I took the petcock apart and one of the rubbers was a bit jammed.  Don't know - I couldn't tell a tell tale sign of what was leaking.

I put some JB Weld around the section that is "riveted" and on the tube with the plug on it - hopes this stops the leak.

Put a little gas that I found in a can used for hurricane month preparedness and rode her up to the station and filled her up.  Can't seem to find anything leaking at present.  As long as the seat was off, I did a little cleaning in areas that I don't clean much.....don't clean much.....come to think of it, I think this was the first time that this area was ever wiped.  Grin Grin Grin

So, sure hope everything holds together, because I am in the need for some wind - that is for sure and for certain!  Whoooooooooo-Hoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!  Even the two miles to the gas station and back sure felt good!!!!  cooldude cooldude  WIND BABY!!!!!!!!!

As one who has significant, painful scars  (in very bad places) from a bike bursting into flames underneath me (and at speed) (it was a Bulltaco), I HIGHLY recommend you don't screw around with a gas leak. Buy a new petcock (oem or pingle) and be done with it.

Striders are cool.

Flaming Striders are less so.

Cheesy

Welcome home!!!

And you reminded me that I have to do something about my tank vent line... it tends to pee a bit when I over fill the tank.  I need to find a place for an overflow tank.   cooldude

Getting it out of the garage with a gas leak was a good idea, but the bike did look sad like it was in the in the corner.
Glad you've brightened that bike's day. Ride safe.
