QUick ?  before I 'hit the hay'.   Does anyone know if the auxillary plug in by the fuse box is  switched - meaning it works like the headlamp, and is off when turning key?

Yes and no.

With my 2001 Standard, the auxiliary connection is off when the key is off and on when the key is on.  But it is not exactly like the headlight in that it does not turn off when the starter button is pushed.
