Learning to use these "bombsights" in the Middle East took some practice and balance.  So did trying to keep you pants clean, and not falling backwards into the trough. LOL

When complaining of the barbarity of these things, the locals said what was barbaric was sticking your bare ass on the same seat thousands of others did.  They had a point.

Rarely any paper, just a water faucet and your left hand.  Consequently, the left hand is considered unclean.... it usually is.   Sad

Having an opportunity back in the to use one of those "holes" on just one of those "squirt" occasions (think it was the foreign food and beer).... I can strongly recommend a low squat and careful aim.   Grin

Yes, you have it exactly!!  Then just hose yourself off and use some of the TP that we all learned to carry.  I loved Turkish Efes Beer.... great taste but quality control was way off, and each bottle could be anywhere from 6 to 15 percent alcohol (no difference in taste).  Four or five of those bad boys and you'd have a nice buzz..... which made it hard as heck to balance when squatting in one of those bombsights in Istanbul.  We also learned to avoid the street food vendors... or you might find yourself visiting those bombsights all day and night.  Ahhh.... those were the days.
