We have an eclectic version of music lovers here. So has anybody ever been to the crossroads?

I've never thought about where the crossroads were, and I'm finding different reports of where it is, but most sources report it to be 61/49.
Quote
Interestingly, there are other contenders in the myth of Robert Johnson's devil-purchased soul -- and the crossroads of US 61 and US 49 in Clarksdale is where most blues tourists pay their respects (the newest Romantics album is called "61/49" for this reason). Of course -- as with ancient Roman tourists setting off to find "sites" from Greek myths -- the location of Johnson's crossroads is not exactly something that can be proven. He was born in Hazelhurst, and his supposed grave is in Quito (near Itta Bena) -- but Rosedale did figure in the lyrics for one of Johnson's most famous songs, "Traveling Riverside Blues".

I was in that area when I went to Memphis, I should have went. Oh well. Next trip.

Yep, i've been in that neighborhood several times, & enjoy it as a getaway back to a simpler time. The people are friendly, the pace is a whole lot slower than in many places, & the livin is on the quiet side.
We have a RV & travel to Ms. every couple of yrs. for a month or so,towing the Valk Cheesy in an enclosed trailer. We ride the motorcycle for touring & looking around.
Yes, this is the MISSISSIPPI DELTA & cotton is still King. It's hot & humid in the summer, but Springtime, March thru May, is beautiful.
We take the Natchez Trace Parkway South from Nashville, & end up in Natchez.
From Natchez, hiway 61 goes No. thru many towns up to Vicksburg, which has a casino on THE RIVER,thru Cleveland on up to Clarksdale & the intersection of "49". This ain't called the BLUES HIWAY for nuthin'. Clarksale is where you'll find MORGAN FREEMANS blues club, MADIDI. It's worth the ride.
All along this route is found any # of juke joints, cafes, & communities where the music is alive & well.
Just across THE RVER in Louisiana is FARADAY,La. which is the boyhood home of THE KILLER, Jerry Lee.(y'all don't need his last name,do ya?) This town has not changed much in 60 yrs.. In fact the whole neighborhood hasn't, which to me, this ain't a bad thing.
Natchez is also close to the Gulf Coast cities of Biloxi & Gulfport, which are a whole lot more glitzy than he Natchez area, but good places to visit.
Of course New Orleans is a great place to go while in "the neighborhood".
We love our "neighborhood" of VA., Tn., WVA, the Carolinas etc., but MISSISSIPPI, is really a step back in time, & that ain't necessarily a bad thing. cooldude
happy trails,
the hobo

There is talk also the crossroads being around Vicksburg, Ms. I live in Magnolia, Ms and travel all around there. Guess I need to ask some locals about the crossroads. While I'm at it never answered your thread about musicans. I have been a drummer since age 12 and now 54 years old. Been in several bands and even been on TV about 20 years ago with the band I use to play with called the Midnight Rider Band.

Stacy and I went up there to Clarksdale, MS last year and really enjoyed the day we spent touring the area and visiting the Blues Museum and other attractions there. The museum has exhibits on most major "Blues Masters" of the 20's, 30's & 40's eras including Muddy Waters and a lot of other greats.

I have some pics at home that I will post later.

Here is some info on Clarksdale: http://www.crossroadshotel.tv/

Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Restaurant and Club is there... http://www.groundzerobluesclub.com/

My favorite place to see was the Shackupinn.... Great place to see and they are getting more touristy all of the time. http://www.shackupinn.com/
