Many years ago about 1967, my  Dad was a fast draw champ from Tx.
He had just bought my Mother a new color TV. This is when they first came out.
He and a friend was practicing their fast draw and when they finished my Dad loaded his 1875 colt 45 thumbuster and was putting it in the closet when Daryl yelled out HEY JESS MARSHALL DILLON IS COMING ON!!!
well Dad put his gun on and ran to the den and squared off against the Marshall..
for those of you that dont know,, the show started with Dillon and a bad guy having a duel..the camera angle was behind the bad guy looking at the Marshall...well Dad squared off and when the Marshall went for his gun my Dad shattered the TV all over the den,, Marshall Dillon never even cleared leather before the big bang...
I heard Dad say OH crap!!! and ran out of the house and told Daryl to hide the evidence and he would be back with a new TV...
Well when Mom got home everything was fine,,she didnt even suspect that was a new TV...Then she went to wash clothes,, water was running out all over the floor in the utility room which just happened to be right behind where the TV sits,, yep he got the washer too...
all i remember him saying after that was yes mam and no mam,,, only spoke when spoken too,, and he was the Chief of Police in West Columbia at that time,,,,
That is one memory i will never forget,,,

We had a Rookie get assigned to us on the hill.

He had been out of the Academy about 3 weeks, when he arrived.

Assigned him a car and had him ride with an older officer for some in depth training.

Third week on the job, he was in the locker room, practicing fast draw.

We heard a shot and went to investigate.     Found him in the locker room all hunched over and rocking back and forth, with a red pool of blood running across the floor.     He had done blew of the 2 toes between the large one and the 4th one.

Off to the hospital with him.    He got either 3 or 4 days vacation for that little stunt.     6 months later, he put one in his upper thigh.    He got fired on that one, and was also registered as a habitual, that could never receive a gun permit in California.

Wow!  Cops are a singular mystery to me.  I have shot with some that were of the highest caliber (no pun intended Smiley  )  and those on the rock bottom.  Mostly the later unfortunately...
