So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: November 25, 2010, 11:11:50 AM »

I've found a 99 Valk Standard with Saddle Bags and Windscreen that is in very nice condition.  The seller is a used car dealer that is notorius for asking top prices.  I have seen this bike up close and it is in very nice condition.  A little over 10k miles.  Good rubber.  What's it worth?
I don't like it was well as my 02 skunk Valkyrie but I hate seeing it just sit there.  At least that's what I keep telling the wife.   Wink
I know prices vary across the country but we're also at the end of the riding season for many folks so I'm thinking he's really wanting to move this bike.  Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I know but, it doesn't give me this forum's opinion.   Lips Sealed

I guess I should have been more specific, I'm asking for the opinion of this forum on the bike's value.

Well, you did ask for Blue Book value.... and we can't see the color/condition/or accessories on that bike like you can.   A bike is worth what someone is willing to pay for it....  it might not be worth much to me, I prefer Tourers and Interstates but if it's what you want and the price is fair for you.... then get  it.

You can check the completed listings section on ebay to see what they are actually selling  for....not what the seller is asking.

You are correct.  If possible I would delete the initial posting/thread title.

Jeezee, not very much to go on.
Say, if really nice and 10,000 miles, maybe $6000 to $7000, if you really wanted it.
$5000 to $6000 would be a better deal.
Under $5000 would be outstanding.

Just my 2 centavos worth.

From the seller's ad:
2 Tone Yellow & Cream Rare Color Combo. Touring Package, Windshield, Saddle Bags, Crash Bars, Highway Lights New Back Tire, Recent Complete Service.   He's asking $6,900.00 down from $6,995.

It's not a Tourer, it's a Standard.  Blueblook says $6,100.  I offered him $5,500.  I might go back.  I'm not very enthused about the colors but, they are what they are.

I'd stick at the $5,500. This is a lousy time of year to sale a bike, especially for a car dealer.

Have the patience of a Buzzard.

I think your offer was fair.... if you and he might negotiate to get somewhere agreeable....good.  But... if you prefer a different color or other accessories shop around... there are deals to be had.

I'm not very enthused ...

You've answered the question you almost asked.

If it's not a "must have" for you stick to a very low price and only buy if it's such a bargain it overcomes your lack of enthusiasm.

As the weather turns colder there will be some good deals to be had.  Hopefully there will be one about which you can be enthused.

Agreed.

Please answer this question for me.  I don't pretend to be a Valkyrie expert, is there any difference in an 02 Standard and a 99 Standard stock from the factory?

2000 they put a different drivers seat on it, and outside of color, no changes.

Almost what R.J. said.

Saddle was improved.  Wheels on the '02 will be clear coated.  I believe the starter switch will have a better casing. I think the '99 pillion will have "Made in USA" on it.

Mechanically they're the same.

Excellent  Should I be able to acquire this bike.  I'd most likely have it painted to match my Black with Red Stripe 02 Standard (skunk).

After much searching, I bought my '99 yellow and cream Standard this past summer for $6,250.  7900 miles, perfect cosmetically and mechanically (well, except for two clogged slow jets), with shield, bags and light bar.  The yellow and cream was a $300 option in '99.    The yellow and cream color combination wasn't my first choice, but it grew on me in a short time, and I've received many compliments on it.  I like that it's distinctive, but am sure that your black with red stripes is even more so.  In my opinion, the dealer needs to come down just about a grand at this time of year.

I bought my '99 2 months ago, 20K miles one owner, newer tires, saddlemen bags, windshield, back rest bag, front tool pouch, one little scratch, grips, pegs, lots of chrome, was asking 7800, drove 220 miles and got it for 6500. BUT it was orange and I was buying an orange one as soon as I found out their was one. That is Allis Chalmers Persian Orange #2 and was made 18 miles from home. I looked up the book value later and am very happy considering the condition and extras.
The amazing thing - While going thru my computer after I got it to upload some rally pics from years ago, I found one picture that I had saved over the years and forgot about...... my bike I just brought home has been at my feet since 1999, an orange Valkyrie only made in '99.

good luck

If he is a dealer I am sure he gave less than that. If it was a fast black/chrome standard it would be worth $5,823.00  crazy2

Great Story.   cooldude

We're talking, I guess we'll see where the discussion takes us.  Of course, the dealer/seller says he'll sit on it till Spring if he needs to.  We shall see.

I bought my second Yellow & Cream Valk 3 years ago this month out in California. Flew out an rode it home.  Bought my first one new off the floor in 2001, it was new Yellow & Cream 1999 stil in the crate.  At first I did not like the colors.  But found them to be very rare, even more rare in perfect condition.

These bikes get attention where ever they go.  You would be supprised at the Harley riders who are impressed.  Rode in the 2010 Bikers for Babies in Kansas again this year.  Almost every stop we made by the time I got back from the dice table there was a small group of people taking a look, lots of folks impressed by the colors.

here's some production by color info

http://www.valkyrienorway.com/Production%20By%20Color.html

interesting, their are 460 standards of a more rare color than mine in N.A.
Mine wondered from home, but it's back within 18 miles of it's birthplace.
