Helpful Hints For Winter

Keep your headlights clear with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents that will prevent that messy mixture from accumulating on your lights - lasts 6 weeks.

Squeak-proof your wipers with rubbing alcohol! Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity.

Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Frost on it's way? Just fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy mess. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which raises the melting point of water---preventing water from freezing!

Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray! Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel.  The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber

Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream! Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels. Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers.

De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved!

Douger, I've used many of those hints before moving south, they work good. I have another use for shaving cream. If you're going to be working on something that will get your hands dirty/greasy, before you start spray a good amount of shaving cream in your hand and rub in until dry. Later when it comes time to clean up, it's much easier...especially if you don't have any waterless cleaner.

Speaking of waterless cleaner, if you don't have any...use a few squirts of oil from your oil can and a teaspoon or two of table sugar in your palm. Rub it in real good and works as good or better than GoJo, the oil cuts the grease and the sugar acts as a pumice. Use a paper towel to wipe off the excess, then wash your hands with dish washing soap like Dawn or similar. It cuts the oil and your hands come out nice and soft....and clean.

Dougger- not to hijack this thread, but I'm headed up to Titusville tomorrow for some rock shrimp at Dixie Crossroads. Got any other suggestions for must see's in the area?

Actually, with this you want to be careful what type of wax you use. Some waxes use petoleum bases and will cause the plastic to haze, just like it does on your bike windsheild.

Dougger, thanks for your cold weather hints.  Wink We already had some -35 temps this past week. It's always a shock first time in the season. Thankfully much warmer for now.

I get this poem every winter & every winter I love re-reading it.

It's a beautiful poem and very well written.
