... I didn't get the Valk because I weigh like I do, I got it because it's like no other bike out there. The fact that it just happens to be big and comfortable, is a plus. ... and after riding the 'Fat Lady', most others just seem like mini bikes Black Dog Same here. I was terribly impressed the first time I saw a Valk at a gas station many years ago (could very well have been the same one I bought). I always wanted to at least ride one but was intimidated, I wasn't the most experienced biker then. Then about a year ago, after many years on V twins, I had the opportunity to test drive one my daughters father-in-law was selling and I had all the intentions of just test driving and not buying it, just so I could say I rode one. Well, as we all know that was all it took... I couldn't get it off my mind and eventually bought it! Although it has had some mechanical issues, which are getting worked out little at a time, I'm very happy I bought it. (of course what helps is the great people here on this board)

Great thread. . . .
Add me to the 'saw that darn wasteland commercial. . . ’ I think I’m the fourth one to admit that! Anyway, the commercial pointed me in the right direction. I already was a Honda man from way back, but knew I didn’t want a 'highway couch' or a 'tuberware bike', (just not for me) so I picked out the Tourer. I thought it would be the best of both worlds.
The dealer had 5 Valks on his showroom floor; 4 Tourers and 1 Standard. That was in February on 2000. I left for Florida on vacation and told him I’d be back. He wanted me to put down some money and I said; “You’re not going to sell these in 3 weeks. I’ll be back.” I got back and all 5 had been sold!! Stupid me. I gave him my name and number. He called me in June and said he had a used Standard with hardly any miles on her.
My wife and I showed up the next day, but he wouldn’t let me test ride it in shorts. So, we left him a check and came back the following morning. As I was pulling in the parking lot I decided I didn’t want to spend the money, but we took it for a ride anyway. We got a hundred yards down the road, still in heavy city traffic, and my bride tapped me on the shoulder and said; “we’re buying this bike.” The rest is history. I ended up getting it DIRT cheap. Nine years later it remains my all-time favorite bike. Hands down! Nothing else is close.
Oh yeah. . . I’m a big fat guy. . . 6’ 9” 400lbs. . no bike “fits me” but the Valk can carry me without any problem at all.

Your poll is faulty... not everyone that rides a Valkyrie weighs more than 165 lbs.
There are outlyers on any statistical analysis. Looking at the attendees at Inzane in Colorado, I'd say the survey is pretty accurate. Also middle aged bunch of guys. 165 or less riding a Valk, Fluke of nature. DW Count me as a "Fluke of nature." 6' 0" 150 lbs soaking wet. 48 years old. Purchased my Valk after simply sitting on one 2 years earlier on a showroom floor. Just somehow knew I had to have one.

6'4" 210 Bought it without seeing it except pics. My best buddy's cousin owned it and had bought a GW. My friend says "You have got to buy this bike." Cousin had garaged it for winter and said I could think about it for a few months before he tried to sell. I then got on this board and read everything I could about it. After all the glowing reports from VRCC and the great tech section I knew it was "my bike". Thanks to my buddy and VRCC, you done me right!

Hey Greg! I’m the runt of the liter too!
Yeah. . . that’s it though! Michigan “corn fed beef" More like sitting on my butt eating Mackinaw Fudge, Grand Traverse Pies, Kelloggs cereal, Win Schulers crackers, anything from Kar’s, Keebler, or Koeze, ANY Koegel Meats, and lastly Hudsonville Ice Cream, with Faygo root beer! I was 197 a week ago and now at 189. Hope to be at 180 in a week or so. At 5'9" 180 fits a lot better and the Valk barely knows I'm on it. Bernie

Then I mentioned the 7 bikes and he already saw the boat and motorhome He laughed and walked away. Came back about 10 minutes with a 6 pack and is a great guy. AAAAh, country livin.

Wow... I think I'm one of the smallest of the bunch at 53 years old, 5'8" and 172lbs. I put 11 1/2" Progressives on the back, progressives in the forks and the riding position feels every bit like my Honda Ace...(have it also). Easily flatfoot with knee-bend to spare. It's a powerful beast and feels great. Love the Valk.

I bought my '99 I/S without ever riding a Valkyrie. However, I was well aware of all the attributes of the beast. Also, it only had 923 miles on the odometer. With the exception of my wife, that Valkyrie is one of the best acquisitions of my life...JTL

I have started thinking of it in terms of prosperity. Each time I have to let my belt out another notch, I have become just a little more "prosperous". After thanksgiving my wife has become disenchanted with my "prosperity" and has told me I need to become a little "less prosperous"!

Well, let's see... I used to fit into three of those categories at one or two times or another, but I've just eased into a fourth. The Valk has had no problem handling me in any of those categories, and vice-versa.

I'm 6'2" and 245lbs. Always liked the Valk because it was not a V-twin and was big. Figured I'd look like a monkey f@#%ing a football on anything smaller. Almost bought one off the showroom in 2000, but balked for some reason. Got lucky eight years later to find the one I have now...how did I ever get by before I had the Valk? ???

Its funny the weight - size of bike thing. I've had several people say to me "I'd love to have a big bike like that, but my legs are short.." or "I just don't think I'm strong enough to hold one up.."
I always tell them the same thing. It is not really strength, but experience, and skill. Also the center of gravity of the bike has more to do with its stability at low speeds than the curb weight of the bike. And...once you are going over 5 miles an hour it just about holds itself up. Our Valks have a nice low Ctr Of Gravity!
I do think it is important for safety that you can flat foot the bike at a stop. But having said that, I have a friend, abt 120lbs, who is on her tippy-toes with a big Harley, seems to have no trouble, but that is an exception. I'll never forget in Sturges one year seeing a 5', slightly built, 60y.o.+ lady on a full dress Hog who could run circles around most of the guys. She made me a beleiver in skill!

Figured I'd look like a monkey f@#%ing a football on anything smaller. Hey! I resemble that remark! Whenever someone asks why I ride a Valk instead of a zip-splat, considering my slightly spirited riding style, all I have to do is show 'em that pic and they quickly understand...

48,5'10 @190. Got one after my bud brought his brand new 98 by my house to show off. Was riding a VF700 Sabre at the time, told him afterwards, "How can I ride my bike now?" That started the hunt, found my 98 Tourer by the spring and its been all good since then.

6'4" and 240lbs. ugh. Was riding a Mean Streak when I was blessed to find Honey B. She's sweet, that's the reason for the name. Anita wanted to ride which was just the excuse I was looking for to have an excuse to aquire her. Nothing other than the Valk I/S would do. We are both in love with her. Was our weight a factor, not in the decision to purchase her, but going with a car tire, that was one consideration when making a decision about the Darkside.
