I ordered some shirts from CafePress last week. I live in Arizona. This is the tracking information I have so far. Doesn't this seem like the LOOOOOOOG way around to get to Arizona? Could this be due to weather? I don't get it at all!

Sometimes those carriers' routes don't make sense to us, but they do a pretty good job at delivering packages efficiently. I just now received a package that I had ordered for the V-Strom. It came from Washington State via Fedex Ground. It went from Wash. to Oregon to OHIO, and then back West to me in Indiana. They probably route things through their major hubs.

It's because it is being sent UPS. They have a HUGE...HUGE... HUGE sort facility in Hodgkins, IL. About 9000 people work there! From what I understand, pretty much if it is a ground package and is going from one side of the Mississippi River to the other (either direction), it goes through Hodgkins.

I am a proud former UPS'r from back in the day. UPS is a GREAT company to work for and could also be a TERRIBLE company to work for depending on specific situations. Two things about them though... 1. You WORK and 2. They pay you pretty handsomely for that work. They do have their stuff together though when it come to moving boxes. Looking back on it now... I should have stayed at UPS.

I don't always know why they do it, other than someone who knew more than I do thought it was a good idea, but isn't a fun read to see where you're package is going? I get disappointed when I buy something from Amazon that won't let me track the shipment. I just like reading along.

i like watching the UPS guy drive up and down the road this time of the year.  the same driver will make six or seven stops on our street through out the day, you would think that if he had his crap together, he would "sort" his load so that ALL of his stops on that street get dropped off one after the other instead of coming back later on after he finds another package....

i worked for UPS in Franklin Park ILL. when i was going to college.  it was a good job, and yes you did work!!  i was an unloader, emptied the trucks after they came in.  also had the JOY of doing that at O'hare field once in a while!!  that was way COOL!!  unloading a jet is a ton easier!!

If they would set your package up and take pics of it along the way this could qualify as a ride report.  Grin

That is funny you mention that... probably the fault of the guy who loaded the truck. That's what I used to do at UPS, "Pre-load" which is picking the packages off the conveyor belt for the 3 or 4 package cars (what UPS calls the big brown trucks) I was loading. UPS has a system of "sequence numbers" we had to memorize for each truck, that tell the loader exactly where to put them inside the truck as to avoid driving up and down the same street 12 times.

Almost all of the drivers are decent guys, who work hard, so their trucks got loaded up nice and in sequence. For the complete tools who made your loading life miserable... "other guys" would usually "accidentally" put a few packages someplace else in the truck, so the driver would have to make a little "extra" backtrack to get those ones delivered too Angry

Of course I never took part in that kind of stuff  angel

Can't do it too often as management would catch on... but every couple weeks.... and only to the ones who wanted to be jack-arses about everything.
