Leave it to MD. to ram this thing through when the people clearley don't want them. wed they voted speed cameras down, then the governor twisted some arms and somehow they revoted the next day and passed this money grab bill. cameras within 1/2 mile of any school , and highway work zones.do you know how many schools there are in baltimore?... another way for the state to pick our pockets...  |

is the first thing to go out the window with traffic cameras.
Charlotte has had them for a while here in NC. I have yet to see any decrease in traffic accidents or safer driving as a result. I have seen countless reports on the huge chunk of money the camera operating/installation company gets on service contracts. I don't believe in these cameras, but I would jump to run a company supplying them. cha-ching!
I also remember Charlotte's police and poilticians saying that they would only be used to look at intersections and traffic patterns. Since then I've watched them unapologetically discuss how they are using them to stop drugs and prostitution...by tilting them up until they can see into hotel rooms! Privacy goes away after the right to face your accused.
I want to know what happens to city/county vehicles that run red lights...where do those tickets go?

I want to know what happens to city/county vehicles that run red lights...where do those tickets go? I work for Gwinnett County in Metro Atlanta, if we get caught we have to pay the ticket but I'm just a water meter repairman. .jpg) |

Do they just take a picture of your rear plate or do they do the driver photo to? Its not fair if you get a ticket and you were not even driving! ??? Or just do what I do when I use my trailer that has been expirered since 02. Throw a little mud on it!  |

From what I've seen of the red light cameras, yes they do get or try to get pictures of the driver also. If I leave the tailgate on my truck down, you can't see my plate but I don't drive where there are any of those cameras are. There was one but they took it down, good thing, I would have gotten nailed on my baby bike once if it was there. I'll refrain from saying what I'd like to do to one of those cameras if they ever get me, the thought police might get me... .gif) |

but usually the ticket is the owners responsibility end of story unless the vehicle has been reported stolen.

The people in charge of those intersections have a tendency to "shorten" the length of time the yellow light is on there by making it a goldmine. BTW watch the ones on Jimmy Carter Blvd... .jpg) |

They did that here in Maryland also and trafic accients increased. Now I think they are back to normal times. |

For a time I was in the "what's the Big Deal" group but I'm not anymore. They just started putting those things up in the area and my question is .... how do I know they aren't filming every car no matter the the light. In theory you could be tracked, via camera, from your house to work to just about anywhere .... there is just something not right about that .... but then maybe I'm just paranoid.  |

Ahhh Maryland Such a great state to be in. Maybe we could pay the mayor in gift cards if she hasn't embezzeled them all. Who Knows, maybe she will run all the crime out of Baltimore and into our rurual communitys and the camaras will pick up the criminals. Then us highly taxed property owners can help pay to support the chriminals that steel our Cars and drive them thru red light cameras. Don't worry our county exec's will take care of us. >:(Goody |

traffic cameras are all over phoenix and the valley of the sun ... do they work ? you can bet they do ... they take your picture come'in and go'in if your not the driver ... you will have to produce the driver do they reduce traffic offences ... maybe not do they produce more revene for the man ? yes they do ! if you see one ... go ahead ... test it !  they'll send you a notice to appear  it will open your eyes  |

Toll roads also use cameras to catch those who fail to pay tolls. Last year, I got notification that one of my motorcycles had traveled on a toll road without paying and without an electronic pass. The road was in Dallas, I live in Houston.
First thing I did was match the plate listed to my bike. OK, it was my Interstate, the one I do all my long trips on. The date? Well, it was a date I was in Leakey, TX, on my Valk standard. Riding with a broken tailbone, no long rides for me at that time. So I couldn't have possibly ridden from Leakey to Dallas and back (not to mention going home to change bikes both ways).
I called the number on the letter, and was informed that the photo was of a large black bike, and the description sounded like it could be an I/S. The description of the jacket the rider was wearing could have been a jacket I wore about that time.
Except it was impossible for ME to have been there, and extremely unlikely that anyone broke into my garage, "borrowed" my bike and rode it to and from Dallas, then put the bike back where they found it.
Oh, and I take odometer readings every time I park a bike in the garage. And the odo readings had not been out of whack either.
I called back, got a nice lady on the phone that time. I explained everything to her, and she enlarged the photo on the computer screen. My license plate had an "F", the guilty bike had an "E".
What's to say the red light camera will be any better?

Here in AZ the cameras have cut down on accidents and injuries. However it was recently revealed that they actually run film and can record every vehicle. Now I'm really angry about them. I was all for them until the video info came out. |

Minnesota courts ruled red light cameras were unconstitutional. Minneapolis had to REFUND all the people that got tickets as well as fix their driving records. I do not know the details of their decision, just the news report info, but if you get tagged the MN court ruling may help you with an arguement. BTW they claimed accidents went down.

Here in Tucson they have a mobile radar van that sits along side of the street in various locations around the city. In the county they have just installed fixed radar traps in high speed areas. And this morning for the first time I saw long pole sticking from state highway patrol pickup along side of I-10 with a radar monitor on the top. They're out to get ya one way or another. It's all about the $$$$$!

beat me too it X Ring.........yup Mississippi's Guv Haley Barbour signed the bill to ban them in the state. They have until Oct 1 to remove any that were already operating. Jackson started removing them the next day after his signature according to my son in Jackson. I think the JT & Dave show in the mornings had a lot to do with riling up the public opinion against them and the legislators actually paid some attention.
