Just plane nuts.......... actually, I don't think he used a plane, but rather some form of knife. 

I wonder how the victim expected the father to react... well now he knows.

i agree with the father!!  he did the right thing!!  what in the hell is a 57 year old doing with a KID!!

 How much did he talk to her prior to the incident?
 My daughter would have tod me eat gress when she was 16/17.
I did tell her boyfriend I would do to him what he did to her.
But I guess, Eunich is eunich when it comes to a man's daughter.

I spoke with mine when she was about that age. A boy in the neighborhood  would walk with her to their mutual friends' get-togethers. I figured him to be pretty good kid but  I asked her if he knew that his future would be brief should he get out of line or allow anything to happen to her, or should I have a talk with him.
She said no need to  talk, he knew,  he was afraid of me. I think I was stereotyped but, WTF.

Yep. The boyfriend (callin' a 57 year old a boy seems like a stretch.) should have quietly disappeared.
