This depends on your needs.  If the traffic is not that significant then you might want to consider hosting it on your home computer.  In order to do this you will need to acquire either

(1) a static IP address from your internet service provider or
(2) what most folks do is use a dynamic IP service such as TZO.com or DYNDNS.com

The advantage of option #2 is that you can host a myriad of other sevices such as an FTP server or stream video such a Dag does at his Valkyrie Norway site for no additional cost.

If you have significant traffic, then it is best to use an external hosting service such as the one Jess mentioned.

I use free resources from google to create plain-jane html based web pages. You don't get
php and all that stuff, and your web page has to be called sites.google.com/site/whatever,
but it is free, they give you a lot of disk space, and it stays turned on basically all the time.

Oh yeah... and you have to live within the confines of their "themes" (basic page layouts)...

I have been using Bluehost.com for 15 years.  Always great service and you can always talk to a live voice on the phone.  Unlimited webspace, file transfer, e-mail accounts, and domains.

http://www.k5pld.org is my simple homemade ham radio page....

6.95 / month...  paid a year in advance...

I use Webhostingpad and find them very good. They had a special offer on recently (may still be on) for $1.99 per month if you pay for 4 years up front so I just renewed mine for 4 years on that basis. I have found their uptime to be very good and their helpdesk response on the odd occasion when there is a problem to be very good. They are one of these 'unlimited' suppliers so read the fine print about fair use. I run 8 domains and 6 sub-domains on my package (including VRCC.es) and have not had a problem with excess usage.

Companies that I have had bad experience with (both for myself and clients) are 1&1, 3ix.org and fasthosts.co.uk, YMMV
