Here’s the good news: Valkpilot and I worked up the following list of tools, supplies, and resources that will go into the DFW VRCC Tool Kit. It can be added to over time when someone identifies another need, but it’s a pretty good start. Some items have been donated, others purchased, and some of the big ones are on order. Thank you, flyboy, for starting to fill the kit in such a big way! Here’s the bad news: All of the proceeds from the sale of shirts, patches, and flags have been exhausted and we need another $125.00 to pay the balance on the ordered tools. Here’s the opportunity to step up: Our club will benefit for years to come if you 1) Contribute cold hard cash toward the balance due on the ordered parts (I accept paypal ) OR 2) pick a "Pending" item (or items) from the list, commit to it with either a public post or private email/PM, and add it (or them) to the kit. Heck, you can even do both. BTW, we would really like to store the kit in a large piece of motorcycle luggage so it can be transported easily by Valkyrie to wrench parties. Soooo, if you have an extra / no-longer-needed / got a newer one I like better / won-in-a-raffle tourpack that’s just taking up space… Tool, Status (Donated, Purchased, Ordered, Pending, Other)Sync Gauges, Donated - Flyboy Fork Tool, Donated - Flyboy Fork Slider Tools, Donated - Flyboy Needle Nose Pliers, Purchased Hemostats, Purchased (new, unused, no jokes please ) Steering Head Tool, Received Swing Arm Tool, Received Clutch Tools Center Holder Pin Set, Received 1 of 4 so far. (Evidently, the order filler didn't understand the part number is a set of 4. When asked about the other 3, the Einstein at the Honda special tools 800 number said, "I don't have an answer for you." Working the system above Einstein now.)(Update: A very conciliatory Einstein called, apologized, and overnighted the remaining three. All four received.) Holder Plate, Received Outer Holder, Received Lock Nut Wrench, Received Driver Attachment, No Longer Available (but if I can borrow one or get some good measurements and a pic or two, I'll make one) Factory Service Manual, Donated - Flyboy Clymer Service Manual, Donated - Flyboy CD/DVD of Factory Service Manual, Donated - Black Dog (Wisconsin!) 3-Ring Binder of special diagrams, Pending, but Sourced (Thanks Valkpilot!) Miti-Vac, Donated - GreenLantern57 27mm Socket (1/2" drive) for rear axle, Donated - Hoghead 27mm Combination Wrench for rear axle, Donated - Houdini Torque Wrenches (3/8"), Pending - Hoghead Torque Wrench (1/2"), Pending 1/2" Breakover, Donated - Hoghead Bearing Puller (wheel), Received Bearing Press (wheel), Received Snap Ring Pliers, Pending Electrical soldering iron & solder, Donated - Six Guns mini-torch, Possible/Pending - Hoghead connectors, Donated - Six Guns stripping/crimping pliers, Donated - Hoghead multi-meter, Donated from Six Guns & BeeSharp - whoever gets here first heat shrink, Donated - Hoghead tape & zip-ties, Pending but Sourced (Thanks Valkpilot (inside joke )) Lift Adapter, Donated - Hoghead Luggage to house / transport kit, Donated - Yoda Master Pleather Saddlebags to house / transport spillover, Donated - Disco

Simply amazing... 15 minutes after my post I get a PM from Black Dog in WISCONSIN! How great is that??? (And no my Texas friends, that is not up in the panhandle somewhere. Wish it were - there are some really nice folks and really nice riding up there!) As soon as we finished corresponding, I check the thread and Hoghead has jumped in with both feet! How great is that???

I'll toss a 27mm wrench into the mix, I prefer a wrench over a socket when removing the axle.

Dave, I believe I have an extra soldering iron, solder, and some electrical connectors if you need them. I might have an extra multimeter for the tool kit as well. I'll have to check when I get home from work. I would like to donate those items if you need them.

Once apon a time there was a giant 6 foot tall rooster in front of the lawn ornament dealer, I always wanted to buy it and put it in my yard, so I could tell everyone that I had the largest pet rooster in Lincoln County!!

Damn it Disco, I clealy resemble that remark. I gleefully, gladfully, willingly donate the dang thing to the local VRCC just to get that specific curse off me. There are many other curses I'll just have to live with, like my friendship with you. I'll lug it over to your fire base in the next couple of days. Soooo, if you have an extra / no-longer-needed / got a newer one I like better / won-in-a-raffle tourpack that’s just taking up space… Refers directly to you only one of those conditions does, Yoda Master. Could apply to anyone who read the thread do the other three... (quote myself did I just?) Thank you very much, JC! You solved one of the last big needs. If, as it's beginning to look, we have "spillover" tools and supplies, I've accumulated two pairs of Willie & Max pleather saddlebags and will donate the pair that came with my Valkyrie to the club took kit. Update on Cash: Hoghead, john, chauffeur, BeeSharp, and one good guy who wishes to remain anonymous have combine for a total of $145 sent to my PP acct. I've pulled the equivalent out of my pocket and put it in the club bank bag. With volvobob & Baron chipping in, we'll be at $195.00 Depending on how TJ splits his generous offer between tools and math tutors, we'll be somewhere between $245.00 and $270.00. I propose that the overage be applied first toward a 1/2" drive Torque Wrench and second toward a 3/8" Torque Wrench. Thanks again!

Why not just buy ONE 3/8" Torque Wrench and ONE 1/2" adaptor (or vice versa) ??!! Use the extra $$ for something else. Okay Okay.. an adaptor on a Torque Wrench may cause a variance of +/- .0035 critical pounds. So. Nevermind.

If I may interject here: The more important difference is the usable ranges of the 1/2" vs. the 3/8". The torque ranges are larger for the larger wrenches, of course. As such, a 1/4" torque wrench might be more useful than a 3/8", but a more in-depth look at ranges and requirements would be in order. Mark

Why not just buy ONE 3/8" Torque Wrench and ONE 1/2" adaptor (or vice versa) ??!! Use the extra $$ for something else. We can do that. My thought was that it's more realistic to hope one person would donate a Miti-Vac or snap-ring pliers than a Torque Wrench. But there goes Hoghead again! If we wind up with enough extra cash from multiple donations, I suggest we aggregate and purchase a bigger-ticket item. I would go for the 1/2" first for the range and leverage. If we opt not to get a 3/8", I'll go for the factory wheel bearing puller. Getting them out is always harder then putting them in... Hard to control to 7 ft lbs with a 1/2 lug at the end of a 24" lever. You beat me to it, Mark! Easy fix: We'll just get a 1/4" Torque Wrench, too! Re header stud nuts, I've never been able to use just one wrench to install, tighten, and continue to snug over time all the header nuts. Maybe I haven't figured out the right technique, but for me it's always taken a combo and a socket on an extension with a wobble... Anyone do it differently???

No Dave, no other/different ideas, I even have to use an open end wrench on the rear right hand side nut, AND flip the wrench around at that to get those buggers tight. I was really wondering how the Honda Techs torque those little nuts that have the pipes real close to them. Hay Jimmyt

I was really wondering how the Honda Techs torque those little nuts that have the pipes real close to them. Hay Jimmyt I understand that Honda has developed a bio-wrench for this. You apply a special organic material to the area of the header nut and activate it by softly singing Nat King Cole classics. It blooms in response, encapsulating the header nut. As you continue to sing, it twists in ecstasy, turning the nuts in the process. The life-form squeals as it approaches 7 ft-lbs of torque signaling you to stop singing. The instructions say to ignore it thereafter. Heartbroken, it dies of loneliness, shrivels and falls off the header nuts, leaving only small amounts of dust on your shop floor. I also hear that a similar compound is being developed for the axle nut, It involves blasting Metallica at high volumes, but they haven't developed a satisfactory technique for deactivating it yet.

My bad. I didn't mean 3/4. I have a 3/8's drive with 5lb to 75lb range. i will check on getting it calibrated. I agree with the 1/4 also. the smaller things are more critical to torgue correctly. You know we don't know our own strength sometime. As far as a mighty vac they are pretty cheap at HB. My experience with snap ring pliers is that some are not so good. I have one of the best Craftman makes and still don't really like it, but it has held up really well. If we are going to purchase one we might get some suggestions from some of you. I think we need to check whats in those cigars Valk has been smokin'

We've made a huge dent in the list , but the following remain Pending in status. So, this is a blatant call to redouble our efforts to complete the DFW VRCC Tool Kit by the end of the week. Can we do it? I believe we can. Factory Service Manual, Donated - FlyboyClymer Service Manual, Donated - FlyboyMiti-Vac, Donated - GreenLantern57Torque Wrenches (1/2"), Pending Bearing Puller (wheel), ReceivedBearing Press (wheel), ReceivedSnap Ring Pliers, Pending
