I was proud to be with my "Wild Bunch" brothers today! 22 degrees when I left the house and 30 degrees when I got home. Thank God for Gerbings heated clothing! Next to the Valkyrie, it is the best money I have ever spent. We rode hard to be able to see these historic sights and learn a little more about two great Tennesseans. I will remember this ride for a long time. The clouds hung low all day and threatened rain or snow but, thankfully, none appeared except for the smallest flurry while we were at Crockett's homeplace. This is a great bunch of guys I am blessed to ride with. And they are every bit "The Wild Bunch" even though we are all on blood pressure medication and more! Looking forward to the possibility of riding New Year's day with them; weather and health permitting! Bernie

Thanks Guys for freeing me or I may still be at the wonderful family kitchen we ate at.
They were out of Catfish but had some great fried chicken.
As for the Wardrobe Incident, no fleshy parts were involved, but very well could have been.
A razor sharp pocketknife and a large pair of pliers were the ticket.
I have repaired the Gerbings which was superficial damage at best, but the Famous Name Chopper
Jacket ,
will be in the leather shop for a new zipper. 400$ Jacket that SmokinJoe found on special
at a local cyclery shop was a Arlen Ness Beauty, but it will live to fight another day.
Believe it or not I sewed it up, the heated vest, with some like made fabric,,, myself.
Wife's sewing hand was in a brace, due to a work related malfunction.
We were getting some strange looks from the locals as the group tried one by one to
free the stubborn cloth from the zipper.
Never beena party to a foul up like that before, it was uncanny.
But with weather in the mid 20's to low 30's,, going on without a jacket would have been foolish.
The Andrew Johnson detour was a real treat, as I had no idea the national historic site was in
Tennessee.
Simply a great ride and great time was had.
Thanks Smokin Joe for the tour of Tennessee heroes.

We passed Andrew Johnson's home on the way up to see Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park and said we might as well check it out on the way home since we are in the hood and gettin' all historical First picture is his home later in life after becoming President when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated . That's a pretty cool house... I really like old brick buildings... we hated Andrew Johnson in South Carolina after the war. Little did we know we had it good with him, as the Radicals who controlled Washington imposed ten years (in some places, including South Carolina) of corrupt military rule on us after they got rid of him... -Mike "we", as in "we landed on the moon in 1969, I didn't go "

"Anyone know what this is ? It did'nt have a chimney or hole for the smoke to go Undecided I did'nt see any information on the property about it."
I think that is an old oven for baking bread. The fire goes in the bottom to heat "beehive" top opening. The bread goes in the top to bake. The fire is started well in advance of putting the dough in so the oven is hot.
Look like you all had a good "cold" rode, thanks for the pictures.

Christmas Day amnesty for Confederates One of Johnson's last significant acts was granting unconditional amnesty to all Confederates on Christmas Day, December 25, 1868, after the election of Ulysses S. Grant to succeed him, but before Grant took office in March 1869. Earlier amnesties, requiring signed oaths and excluding certain classes of people, had been issued by Lincoln and by Johnson. Did you know ? Johnson was buried just outside of Greeneville, Tennessee, with his body wrapped in an American flag and a copy of the U.S. Constitution placed under his head, according to his wishes. The burial ground was dedicated as the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery in 1906, now part of the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Johnson

Great post about great American heroes! Thank you, but goodgrief! Man, 22 degrees is flat out COLD! My hats off to all you southern boys who rode in it! Us northerners are use to riding in what many would consider way too cold, but. . . 22 degrees?!?! I’ve ridden in ‘high 30’s’ a few dozen times, but my cut off for comfort (the temp that no matter what you wear or how you ride, you’re going to be cold) is 40! Anything below that and you’re going to be shaking and rattling!

Gerbing's are a wonderful thing and would be some of the best money you ever spent....You still have time to put in a order with Santa " THE " Detn8er and I left my house one morning a few years ago it was 9 degree's when I backed my bike out of the garage we rode 500 miles that day to Hattiesburg , Mississippi.

I would rather ride when it is 22 than at 102.
22 you crank up the thermostat.
102 you fry like a steak in a skillet.
Or go up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, God's Little Air Conditioner.
According to History Johnson as in Andrew, was one of the worst Presidents.
Lincoln picked him for his second bid for the presidency over his first running mate, Hanibal Hamlin,
to solidify the Missouri Vote and other middle america and western states, and also
becuase they both had similar views on how to treat the south after the civil war.
Johnson , like Lincoln were all about swiftly putting the Union back together and guess who
the Liberals(Republicans at the time, were all about how they could punish the south
for losing.)..
IfThe Confederates had won, all they wanted from the north was to be left alone.
Lincoln and Johnson.
They were not so concerned over the slavery issues as they were putting the Union Back Together.
Thus the 14th amendment pushed forward by liberals,.
Which in their frenzy to free did not do the job as it should have been done and got it all fouled up.
Left the job to the Dems who were against it at the time and then to do it in the 60's
Both good men, caught in a bad time.

Possible I guess ....The top did not open it was made just like a igloo...Nowhere for the smoke to go , no rack for cooking
