I've owned two Valkyrie standards. Both identical in year and color. Ended up making the second one almost exactly like the first one.  But I'm not clear at all on what makes a SuperValk or what is the change to the Darkside?     Can someone Please explain?

If i am understanding the question right,,,
a super valk is an interstate without the trunk and saddle bags on it, set up for solo riding,
the dark side is when you run a car tire on the back of your bike,,,

But has the ability to convert back to two up riding with the parts easily replaced.

Yes, a supervalk (SV) is an Interstate without a truck (some anal retentives claim is must be a quick detach trunk -  Grin)

Running a car tire on the rear of any motorcycle is called darkside (and is irrelevant to an IS trunk or lack thereof).

Well that clears up a lot.  Thanks for the info.. 

I know after only getting around 9 to 10,000 out of a rear tire and getting the shaft ($300.00) at the local Honda shop on rear tire installation. Next time I'll take it off myself its a car tire for me!  I hear everyone gets much better mileage out of the car tire.

They sure do! I switched fall and after 7,000 or so miles there is barely appreciable wear on the tire. I'm a darksider for life.

I hear everyone gets much better mileage out of the car tire.

I am approaching 28,000 miles on my first one, and will have to consider getting a new one this Spring.   (and that tire cost $112)

We're not necessarily anal retentive.  I just happen to know the history of the SuperValk term, as well being witness to the coining of the term long ago.
 
A bit of history regarding the term.  Biker Rabbi aka “Rabbi” Cameron, the gentleman who was the first to accomplish the quick release trunk mod on his Interstate was very proud of being able to change quickly from trunk to trunkless.  
Because his Valkyrie could be I/S, Tourer, or Standard (bag drop kit), Rabbi said his Valk was a "SuperValk"... all three models in one.  

Out of deference to the man that coined the term, I only refer to a convertible mod as a true SuperValk (technically, a bag drop kit is also required, but that never really became a recognized part of the term).

The Darkside term was coined as a tongue-in-cheek phrase (i.e., Come to the Darkside), because of the controversary of using a car tire on a MC

Also, I believe at one point the term indicated that a set of "kick-a**" pipes was necessary to qualify, but far be if from me to muddy the water, since we are having so much fun with seats and bags and such!

I agree, I believe Rabbi's conversion came first, but Rocket did a great job of putting the information together online so that it could be referred to by others down the road. I have used it many times and still don't have my brackets built, but have just talked to a welder about cutting some out for me after the first of the year. It doesn't matter what we call it as long as we love to ride it!

As much as I hate to admit it....that was a pretty good story!  I can now understand the "passion" in the debate......

Well being a little slow ont he uptake every now and then I get it.  So having a standard no matter what is done the term SuperValk does not apply.  Works for me!

But no question about it, when the next tire change comes (this spring) going to the dark side....

I used Rabbi's instuctions to convert my I/S around 2001 after seeing his bike at the ride in at Hellen Ga. It was avaiable on one of the sites. After my wife got her bike and stopped riding with me I sold my trunk and picked up some tourer fender rails so I could mount a passenger back rest.
