Does anyone restore helments?

I've got two matching Nolan helments but one has been abused on the interior. I really like these helments and would prefer to recondition them versus replacing. The exterior of both of these helments is perfect. I hate wasting two perfectly good helments. So, am I wasting my time of does someone do this?

from what I've read, helmets have a useful life of 5 years if undamaged (not dropped, etc.), and the shell needs to be replaced (ie, new helmet).
If you're wearing them for protection, not just looks, then I would say get new helmets.

Other than painting the outside or replacing foam inserts on the inside, I have never heard of refurbishment. The helmet makers swear we all need new ones every five years, but I think that's BS so long as it is not damaged, repeatedly dropped or dried out.
Have you checked to see if your Nolan's can accept replacement pads inside?
