I've used up all my arbitrary vacation days for the year, but there's still a few Christmas holidays...
I'm off for a few days, and it got up to 60 degrees today... I had to figure out some
place to ride the Valkyrie. So me and Carolyn set out on a quest for Grits...

We were socked in with fog this morning, but by 10:30 or so when we left it was just foggy down by
the lake...

The road was still wet from the fog in the Clemson Forest...

The hunters are loving the Clemson Forest right now... I guess deer season lasts a few more days... I
saw a nice buck near here on the way home from work the other day...

There's this cool Plantation house on the way to the Grits out past Anderson...

And this old brick building - I've been meaning to get a picture of the Valkyrie in front of it...

Finally, part A of our Grits search... Grits and Groceries...

Carolyn got boudin stuffed chicken, mmm....

Naturally, I got... grits...  cooldude a big chunk of fried grits with tomato gravy... and a bowl
of sausage and okra gumbo...

a little palaver to aid in digestion...

Then down the road, to search in vain for more grits...
For the last 15 or so years, we've gotten all our grits for the kitchen from Laurens Lumber... Calvin
grinds up yellow corn, and makes the finest grits I know of...

Alas! He was out of grits, more are to be ground this afternoon, I'll have to wait to get some...
fortunately, the bag in the picture above is in my freezer right now, so we're not out...

A quick fill up for the ride back to our part of the Upstate...

Actually, we had to go to a real gas station, but this old one in Laurens sure is fixed up nice,
with a cool old car to boot...

Some random pictures from the ride back...

Around 180 miles all told, two up, a nice day, even if Calvin was out of grits...

Merry Christmas everyone...

-Mike

Excellent ride report and pictures. I appreciate the time you spent making this report. I wish more folks on the board would post more ride reports and such and skip the politics. It seems like nobody cares to brag of their rides any more.

Now what the hill is a grit or a palaver ? I thought grit was a part of sandpaper, and I have no idea what part of the cow is the palaver.

I made my last ride of the year today to and from work. I'm off to the Texas beaches until next year tomorrow evening. I may have to see if they grow palaver's down there.

Great report Mike.  I mighta got out today for a short ride, but by the time it was decent, the Christmas traffic was stupid.  So I just dreamed I went for a ride.

Hey....... I thought you didn't eat anywhere but Cracker Barrel.   Wink

I was thinking about you snowed-in winterized folks when I posted those pictures  Wink ...
We may get a couple of inches on Christmas, that hasn't happened here since 1963...

What is wrong with the roads up there, Mike?  In all of your road pictures, you can't see where the road goes!  They're all bendy and twisty and up and down and whatnot.

Cry  I sure do miss the twisties.  Cry

It's been said before, but down here we have the reverse of "The Tail of the Dragon" (would that make it "The Head of the Dragon"?) - 11 curves in 318 miles.  Angry

Thanks for the pics and report!

Thanks for the excellent ride report and especially the pics.  I ride 2 hrs on the way home from work yesterday.  No place to go, just cruising around looking at all the Christmas lights and decorations in the neighborhoods.

I used to drive Cross Country 18 wheelers.
I always said youre too far north when they stop asking if you want sweet tea.
"Mary, that boy just put shugar in his sweet tea". Kinda like it was a crime. HAHA.
Never had grits till I was at a little truckstop in Crossville Tennesee.
I was hooked. Salt-n-pepper with some brown gravy. dayuuuummmmm.
Good report.

Everynow and then there was a car, so I kinda cherry-picked for that...

Other than crossing 24 when we were by-passing Anderson, and when we went into Laurens to get
to the lumber yard, about 170 of the 180 or so miles was just like those pictures  Smiley

Almost forgot... went through Honea Path too... stopped for a funeral...

Civilization is eating away at the Upstate, but I still know how to miss it...
