Just received all my Motosen gauges. I have a question regarding the Control Display Gauge.

For those of you who have done the install on this gauge, how did you hook up those extremely fine/thin wires,,, and to where??? Please be as specific as possible. I even had a bit of trouble stripping the insulation off without breaking the thin stranded wire underneath.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I can't help with the install, but would love to read a write-up and see pics when you are finished.

Can you take a picture of the wires in question?

When it comes to stripping very fine wires... I typically use one of these:

Its a while since I installed mine, but here is some details:

There are 8 wires from the control display:
WHITE:  To be connected to the right turn signal wire (inside the headlight)
BLUE:  To be connected to the Head Light (High Beam)
GREEN  To be connected to the Head Light (Low Beam)
GREY  To be connected to the left turn signal wire (inside the headlight)
BROWN  To be connected to the neutral swithch (light on headlight)
YELLOW  To be connected to the oil pressure switch (or the "low oil pressure light" inside the tachometer)
BLACK  To be connected to -
RED  To be connected to + (I have connected it on the "free cable" behind the right side cover, I think thats for a CB radio. That wire are connected to the igniton.

I`m on easter holiday, and I`m a few miles (about 600) from my bike. I dont have any more details until I`m back home next sunday.
I dont remember the color coding on the wires inside the headlight, but I`m sure someone will chime in...

The question is not what you look at...but what you see...

assuming CF model

r turn signal - L. blu
l turn signal - or
low beam - wh/bl  (same as accessory terminal)
hi beam - blu/bl
neutral - gr/bl
oil press - blu/rd
coolant - bl/br

guage (instrumentation) lights - br/wh

I haven't put one of these on but from looking at the instrument on their site this should go together with what Dag posted, if you want to verify the circuits you should be able to ground the instrument (black according to Dag) and then apply 12 volts to the other wires one at a time and they should illuminate an indicator on the gauge, note the function and go to the next wire.

Thanks guys.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. For some reason, I can't access the message boards from this site from my home, only here at work. I'll have to check that out.

Any way,,,, I have a set of wire strippers similar to the ones you all are showing. But for some reason the gauge of the fine wires for the control gauge are a bit too big for the associated selection on the strippers. I was able to get around it by selecting the next smallest blade which would completely break the wire, but instead of trying to strip the insulation, I just compressed the blades to make a nice circular cut and removed the insulation with my thumb nail. Worked perfectly! lol

At this point, almost all wires have been connected. Just have to splice in the oil pressure lead to the blue/red wire in the harness and,,,, the yellow fuel gauge wire.

Now,,, regarding the fuel gauge. I wasn't ready for this and the instructions didn't mention this either. The Fuel gauge has 3 wires. Red - hot / Black - Ground / and the yellow goes to the fuel sender on the tank. How-ever, the fuel sender on the tank has a TWO wire connector!!!! What first thought was "What the F" lol. My suspicions seem to have been correct from a few answers I got on the Valkyrie Riders forum in that one of the wires on the fuel sender needs to be grounded to the chassis and the other goes to the yellow wire from the fuel gauge.  I haven't tried it yet. Probably by the end of the week. Oh,,, and I successfully did the rebuild on the petcock as well. lol

When all of these upgrades are completed I'll figure out how to post pictures here and show you all the finished product. Still have to get the tank back from the painter, install the moto-lights and Big Barrys Interstate forward controls. Hopefully that'll be in the next month or two.
