Decent flick I don't think The Outlaw Josey Wales will have to worry about it taking it's spot near the top of one of the best ever. I've sure seen worse movie's .Wife and I went out for a nice supper saw a movie and as the saying goes...A good time was had by all  Wink

I saw it the other nite as well. I don't think it's really fair to compare it to the John Wayne version. It centers around the girl like the book. It's a Western and a good one at that and that's really all that matter's. Jeff Bridges does well in a western and like to see him do more of them.

If you like Westerns .... Go see it !!

My Son took me out to see it over the x-mas break. we really enjoyed it. I have to show him the original with the Duke! Bridges is building a whole new career as the rough and tuff old guy!

Joe...we got together with Jackie & Charlie last nite and went to see it also....after hearing all the build up from alot of folks, I was disappointed in the movie  Embarrassed in some ways but was delighted to see a new western movie Smiley I don't recall ever seeing a re-make of a hit movie that was ever better then the orginal, have writers run out of story lines or is it just easier to ride the coats tails of a movie that has already been a success..have a good new year and we'll see ya down the road soon.

It's not writers. It's studios and others that finance the movies.

They want a sure thing. No room for "new" or "creative" there.

(fortunately there are some exceptions)

Don, I agree. I guess I was looking for "more" of the "DUKE" style of a gun fighter. Also I did not think they spoke like that back when !!  Undecided

I thought he did a good job as the bad guy in Iron Man 2.

Don....funny you should say that, as we were walking out of the movie, I said to Tracy that their manner of speech didn't seem right...especially that of the character of Cheny..

Don't know if you watched any of the HBO "Deadwood" series but it was the same way (use of language).  Maybe they were better educated back then  Smiley

Wife and I went out to dinner and saw it too. I was not blown away by the movie but Jeff Bridges did a great job of acting as usual. It was not a bad movie and it was good to see a western for once. We both enjoyed it.

Hmmm....Maybe Bridges is left handed and I think he shot left handed in the movie.

The speech was more like what was used back around 1900-it sounds formal because there are almost no contractions used.

My wife and I went to see it last night.  I was a little disspointed espeacialy after seeing Matt D on the David Letterman show saying it was whole different movie than the Duke version. The young girl done a great job as did Matt. Was not as pleased with Jeff's part as Rooster.  Good movie though.
I guess I'm just a fan of the Duke!

Saw it tonight, I enjoyed it, although I tend not to make comparisons of re-made movies to one made 40 years ago. I like the Duke version, but also liked this one. My wife even liked it, but she likes Eastwood westerns too! Have to admit, I am a fan of Jeff Bridges since his Starman movie. I'll probably buy it when it comes out on blue-ray

I saw the movie last night after dinning out for moms birthday. I liked it . Tried not to compare it to the original. But thats hard to do having seen the original so many times. I too found the speech odd  as earlier mentioned, and compaired to Deadwood. After reading that before seeing the movie I was a little concerned the langauge may have been foul as in Dead Wood,(I was taking Mom for her 70th birthday) but not at all, it was just the way the languge was spoken , and it may have been the lack of contractions. I enjoyed the improved film and sound quality . Thought overall it was good.

Rourke was the super-bad guy, not the Villian bad guy.  Jeff's character was responsible for Stark's father's death, Tony's kidnapping, and getting Rourke the money to make his version of the suit.

It sounds like most of you are giving it a fair to good review, I am surprised from the clips I saw. I guess I would just rather watch the old one and not give it a chance. I do like Jeff Bridges though...

I'm having the same same problem with The A-Team and a few others.

that's why we have 5 tv's in the house, 2 in the motorhome, I rarely watch something new !!

really? I didn't see Bridges listed in the cast on iron man2......but then, i'm sure not a pro at movie watching, most of them i only see bits and pieces of, very few have seen in entirety.

Outlaw Josey Wales. One of my favorites. Havn't seen True Grit remake yet. Why even try to compete with original. Whats next Shane staring Brad Pitt

Casablanca with bradpitt. Captain Blood with tomcruise. Lawrence of Arabia with benafleck.
I hope to see the new True Grit this week.
Funny how we get when the talent pool of hollywood remakes the tried and true as opposed to excersizing creativity.
