I have a  Honda chrome piece down on left side (siiting on bike) that has bubbled up. I have been told by dealer that Honda will not replace it, even though I have an extended warranty still in effect.
So much for the warranty. At any rate I cannot find it on micro fiche from hdl, and I would like to replace it befor it peels. Anyone have a part #. Honda dealer was no help.
Thanks Chuckie

I think you're talking about the alternator cover #6 in the pic

I suggest u read the extended warranty yourself. it should be covered. most stealers do not know the bike and might think it an aftemarket piece even though it has honda on it.

A lot of the covers are bubbled, Some claim heat, others say it is fuel leaked onto it, but it still should be covered if you have the extended warranty. Don't let up on them.  P.S. Buda: did you enjoy your ride today?

Some peel, some don't. My '98 has 117K on it and has seen all kinds of weather. No peeling yet. Just lucky I guess. The local tech told me he's peeled the chrome off several of them and he paints them wrinkle black. I'd prefer shiny black if I had to do it.

not covered.. and honda pays dealers to do the work if covered .
Mechanical failures is not a bubble in the chrome. your beaf is with honda not the dealer.
honda makes a great product but id you have a isssue they treat you like dirt. Not the dealer, honda.
dealers do not warrant anything accept there labor. the bikes and parts are by the manufacturer.

A Honda Protection Plan covers you for mechanical failures as a result of defects in materials or factory workmanship, with no additional out-of-pocket costs. Coverage is virtually the same as the Honda Limited Warranty coverage you get with a new Honda; however, tires, batteries, audio equipment and accessories are not covered. Every Honda Protection Plan is good across the country, and replacements are always made with Honda Genuine Parts.

Like Challenger and others said...very common. I got my IS (used) with the cover bubbled. The owner gave me some song and dance about "accidentally waxing the cover". Yeah.... Then I learned it's a very common thing. The good thing is, they come up on e....Motors often enough. I replaced mine for 40 bucks. We'll see how long that lasts.

The mind is not working to well but I seem to remember seeing somewhere that certain cleaning agents should not be used on chromed plastic.
If I can find the refernce I will post it.

How to care for chrome accessories.
Lists several things that will blister chromed plastic.

Still available from Honda.  Get from HDl when on sale.  At least they were a few months ago.  For LESS than on ebay.

They are much cheaper in the UK  cooldude, they are the only part that is Cry. I paid about £8 /$12 for mine from David Silvers who are the UK equivalent of HDL. Maybe worth getting a bulk order together and get them from the UK?
