The I/S carb springs are weaker than the stock ones. When you open the throttle, the weaker springs allow the carb slides to come up faster which gives a bit faster throttle response. The I/S ICM has 2 deg more ign advance in the mid range and stock advances at idle and higher RPM's. I'm not a fan of modifying the electrical system for the ECM mod. When you have the bike serviced, the tech probably won't know what's what in the wiring. It would be better to get the 4 deg trigger wheel to use with the I/S ICM. Another improvement would be Dyna-Jet needles and play with the settings in the notches to improve the fuel/air mixture. My suggestions can all be returned to stock if necessary.

I don't agree with the needles suggestion.
If the exhaust and air filter remain stock, then there's no reason to mess with the needles.

Well, I know that when I installed my I/S ICM, 4 Degree Air Lake Trigger Wheel, Full Desmog, I/S Carb Springs and the ECT MOd with the Potentionometer my Death Horse really woke up. No More Cold Starts and you can really feel the difference than from before and picked up great gas mileage. Just finished my 4 degree rake kit for the trees and I can now do figure 8's with my Death Horse and it is so easy to turn. Enjoy your modding

Thanks for all the feedback

The springs are no trouble at all to change. Just remove the chrome covers with three screws (the ones at the tops of the carbs). Underneath the chrome covers are plastic covers, remove them carefully, the springs are below and so are the diaphragms, you don't want to damage them. Just pull the spring out, you may have to wiggle them a bit and replace with the I/S springs. Replace the plastic cover, be sure the diaphram is in place properly, it has a skirt which seals the covers to the carbs. Sit the chrome covers on top and screw them down, go for a ride.

f6rider, here is the link that your looking for. The hardest part for me was not stripping out the screws on the carb covers trying to take them off. They are easy to mess up if your not careful. I sprayed the screws with some WD-40 to help get them off. Otherwise its not a bad job. http://www.rattlebars.com/mtz/shims.html

I installed the Pot for the ECT Mod because I did not want the full 10 degrees advance at startup. I have it about 50% and seems to be just fine for what I have and the Death Horse Loves it.

I have done both. First I put the I/S springs in and you could felt the extra power on take off. Later I was lucky to find a I/S mod for a good price. You could tell it was a little better and I gained 2-3 MPG. So I gained alot for about a 100 bucks I should have done this 10 years ago.

Hi thanks for your response to my post. I have a couple of questions. Did you do the ECM MOd yourself? If yes, do you still use the diode? If so were does it go since the resistor is on the POT.
FYi. I just bought a used I/S icm off ebay. I will be installing that ( were is it roughly).
I will be doing the I/S carb spring mod as well.
I also have a 6 degree trigger wheel I wasnt going to use.
I typicially dont whined it up that high in the rpms often, Whats your thought on installing the 6 degree with the other mods..

Under the left side cover, behind the coolant bottle.

Go with the 4 degree. My IS has a 6 and sometimes it just takes a bit more to start. Also you might want to shim the stock needles while your in there.Easy to do.If you got an afternoon and some time come over to me in Palm Bay and I can give you a hand.
