Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: January 01, 2011, 04:56:21 PM »

I'm going to give us a " A " for effort . We hooked up this morning at 8:00 at Northern @ I-640 and Clinton Highway....It started raining last night around 11:30 and never stopped  Sad  Pulled my bike out of the garage this morning in a absolute down-pour as did the other three riders that joined me Big Al , Gordon ( Lucky 13 ) and Paul.

We did'nt even get out of Knoxville when Lucky 13 claimed he was going to abort the  mission . Big Al , Paul and I rolled on . As we entered the mountains on the I-40 Gorge at the Tennessee / North Carolina stateline it became apparent that low visibility due to very dense fog, low clouds and pouring rain was going to be a issue on this ride. We made our way on to the Hot Springs exit as I posted we would stop there arrived at 10:45. I did'nt expect to find any Valkyrie's riders there but stopped for that " just in case ".....We knew if the Gorge was damn near impassable on a motorcycle we had no business going to Mt. Mitchell ( anyone that's ever rode The Blue Ridge Parkway in pouring rain and  dense fog will know what I'm talking about you can't see the bike in front of you  Sad  ).Paul and I turned and headed for home at Hot Springs Big Al felt it would be safer to get a room and wait the weather out claimin' he could'nt see to ride in these conditions. Big Al is piled up in a nice room in Maggie Valley, North Carolina Paul and I are home  cooldude   Oh well try again next year on " The Kiss My Ice Ride 2012 ".No money shot on this ride...Bikes at the  Hot Springs exit just before we split up.

A young man named Mangina Marcel
Thought to ride in the rain would be finer.
Alas and alack he's flat on his back
On a bed in Maggie Valley the big whiner.

Al on a more serious note. If you read this the forecast for tomorrow is much better. Remember you have to get to Mt. Mitchell from the Hwy 80 access north of Mt. Mitchell on the BRP.

I talked with Al last night he said he was rollin' at daylight and heading home....Mt. Mitchell won this New's Year Day all we can do now is try again Jan.1 2012....We got in about 225 soaking wet miles yesterday so it was'nt a total bust ....We rode on New's Year's Day and did'nt see another motorcycle the entire day.

Joe,

Sorry the weather didn't cooperate for your 1/1/11 ride. We had 270+ show up for the Chili Chili ride here in NJ. Temps were in the 40's.....just a short 33 mile ride, but it was great to get out!!!
Sometimes those large group rides can be stressfull ( depending on the knuckleheads that might be all around you) but I was surrounded by good riders, not hot dogs......it was a great way to start off the New Year!!

Mangina

I don't know what to say.

Because you never know, it could have easily turned out different.

Weather and MT/Mitchell won.

I could not see to continue at Interstate Speeds, but the road to Maggie Valley was a better

story.

Great Motel I stayed at, Jacuzzi in the Room, WIFI, Balcony Over Looking the main drag.

I ate the Continental Breakfast at 0630 hrs. I like the waffle machines with the Belgian Waffles

you make from a mix.

Comfort Inn, had a nice stay.

31 Degrees as I got to the house this morning.

Back Tire is shot, 5k on a Metzler and it is toast.

When you ride with the Wild Bunch, tires don't seem to last like they do in Kansas.

Bridgestone in the shed, a 702 for 145$ no shipping charges, they claim it is made for the Weight and

Horse Power of the Mighty Critter.

We will see.

Variety is the spice of life they say.

I hope no one notices we are all parked in a No Parking Zone at the Pilot on Exit 24 I-40. Cheesy

Oops they will now.

Joe,
I guess I made the right decision also.  Woke up at 2:00 am to ride down from KY.  Raining like a cow pissing on a flat stone. Watched the weather and it didn't look good.  So I got 250 miles in friday on backroads of KY and 70 miles yesterday after the rain.

I finished the year and started the year right by riding by rimy wing.  Ice was gone friday morning because of rain.

Happy New Year.
