hey guys,  i was reading some threads on a google search about  painting vinyl saddlebags and was wondering if any of you had tried this.  i took a set of leatherlyke bags off my valk at purchase, they're pretty faded and other than that in good shape, so i was wondering if i could paint them.
any thoughts?

I would say you could paint them. Prep work would need to be very complete. If they can paint vinyl tops ,no reason you can't paint the LeatherLykes.  Clean, clean again, surface prep, prime, and paint.

Are you wanting a color vinyl finish or a body smooth finish?

Mario:

Unless you just want a different color the bags can be brought back to like new color with a product called Back to Black.  Easy wipe on and off.  Get it at Walmart for about $7

Hey Mario , I guess your talking about totally painting the bags all around .... I had asked this same question about my Leathlyke bags and a bunch of folks seemed to think no , it ain't possible because of the orange peel finish .... Around Sept. l I had a friend paint the tops of both bags with the Dream Catcher design with multy colors to match the pinstriping on the tank , side covers and front fender and the pretty paint job is still on there ... my friend said its all in the prep work ..... if its half-ass prep then the paint won't stick .... Thanks the Geezer crazy2

If you go to an auto paint supply house, you can get  dye type paint especially formulated to vinyl. It should not crack or orange peel, the leather will obsorb it instead of it laying on the surface.

If you need LeatherLyke parts get in touch with me.  A fellow valker did me a great favor and I am willing to pay it forward.  I have a set of LeatherLykes that I would part with for free along with mounting hardware. I offered them before and the folks that said they wanted them have not made any effort to get them.  The right rear grommet is cracked (even after the mods) and if you think you can repair them you are welcome to them.  Figure out how to get them and they are yours.  By the way, the Back to Black by Mother's is good stuff!!!
