Air guide plate for radiator

Had a little run-in with a deer a couple of weeks ago.  My radiator was, amazingly, the only thing damaged.  The deer struck me while I was riding about 50mph, and hit right behind the forks, taking out my radiator.  I am ordering the parts to get my gal back on the road.  When looking at the parts from HDL for the radiator, I see part # 5, Plate, air guide.  I do not see where this is on my bike.  Is it optional?  Did PO remove it?  Or am I just overlooking it?

it directs the air out to the sides after it has passed through the radiator and fan.
On IS models it lets the air exit through the pods and it is different (larger) and for some reason costs way less(?).
It will be near impossible to replace unless you have the radiator our and probably the tank off too.
Some have removed it. I would not. It does keep all the heat from getting under the tank and all over the carbs.
It may not be easily visible as it is tucked away behind the fan shroud. Thus, it may not be damaged and you won't need a new one.

Thanks for the info.  At this time, I do have the radiator out, as it is very damaged.  The tank is off also.  There was nothing behind the fan.  Just the timing belt cover.  Since it does appear that the original owner did take it off, should I replace it?
The only other damage besides the radiator and left radiator cover was the radiator stay brackets, and the left engine guard was bent back a little.

You are fortunate in the relative lack of damage.
It looks like a piece of black plastic and is would be where you can't see anything back under the tank (looking from the front with the radiator out).
Some will say, not having it is OK. Like I said, it is there to keep excess heat off the carbs by keeping the hot air from the radiator from being blown back under the tank.

Ricoman, thank you for your help.  I got up under there with a flashlight, and now I see it. I didn't expect it to be where it was.  Also, thanks for the email.

I cannot seem to see this "plate" on my 1999 std either. Can you provide a picture or tell me approximately how far back from the fan I should look to see this. The version that is on an interstate appear to be very close to the fan.
