We slept in late, and I didn't really think we would get to go, so when we were putting on our leather jackets and walking up to the bike this beautiful Sunday morning I was quite suprised.

My wife and I had planned loosely to take off Saturday morning and ride. I wanted to ride up to West Virginia, just because. My wife likes this visitor center up there that has crafts off of I-77. It has an indian name that I can't ever remember. Friday night my wife checked the weather.com report and realized it was going to be cold Saturday. She suggested that we go Sunday instead. That was fine with me. I just wanted to ride. I spent Saturday doing paperwork while my wife put grass seed in our bare spots.  Then Saturday night we spent eating and being merry with friends late into the night.

When we got home and I double checked that we were still going to take off at six in the morning...my wife wasn't so sure.

When we finally got out of bed on this sleepy Sunday it was 9:00. And it was still a long time (showers, hairdrying, dressing) from hitting the road.

We finally left after 10:00.  Luckily we didn't need to stop for breakfast/brunch/lunch for a while. Around noon, after walking five miles through nearly stopped traffic on I-77 North of Statesville, we stopped at a Waffle House. Good waffle-ho food. Then on into Virginia, straight through a few mountain tunnels and into West Virginia. Above bluefield we realized that the late start was goign to keep us from going where we wanted and getting home at the time that we wanted, so we hung back south down I-77.

Mostly ran interstate from here outside of Charlotte to outside of Bluefield, WV, and nearly home again.

On the way home we hopped off the interstate near Terrell and Troutman.  I remember when that route back to the house through Troutman was scenic out by the Duke Power State Park. Now the ride by the Duke Power State Park is still a two lane road crowded with housing development.  Still better than running the interstate and ran a few longer miles out of the way back home.

All in all nearly 400 miles with my wife behind me. It is nice to have her riding behind me again. When it gets cold or wet she becomes less interested in riding. Oddly today started colder than when it was to cold to go to Ikea on the bike last week (25 miles) and we headed to Wv(nearly 400 miles).  I don't try to figure it out. I just enjoy it when she's behind me and we're getting to share the wind.

It's not wind in my hair, or bugs in my teeth that I like, it is my wife at my back that is a lot of fun on the Valk.
