Well, its official. That four letter word is spreading itself in Fort Worth, Texas. Its a dirty word for some poeple and a blessing for others. Lisa can spot a this evil thing a mile away. Snow. Thats right, Snow. She can't stand to drive in this stuff and sometimes she almost freaks out in snow. She says its part of her heritage of being a pure 100% Texan. When I used to own my own rig, Lisa and I were going along I 40 though Arizona heading west to Cally. 120 degrees on the desert floor. Cruise set on 70, tunes going and just digging the desert and the trip. We came to the hill going up to Flagstaff, Az. No big deal. My Western Star climbs it without even dropping a gear. Suddenly, Lisa stiffens up in her seat, (she's my navigator) and I notice, asking whats wrong. She almost shouts, "I SAW A SNOWFLAKE!!" Not even thinking about our location, I look at her " yeah, right babe". ??? Suddenly it starts to come down, hard. I had over 3 inches on my mirrors, windshield, and everything else. She is really starting to get hyper. Its really coming down now. I was thinking, "Great, this will put me behind schedule." We finally start going down the other side and it starts to lessen, then quite all together. I see her out of the corner of my eye staring at me like, "SEE???? I told ya so!! I have learned to never doubt my wife. Lisa and I went for a bit of grocery shopping yesterday (Saturday), and it seemed kinda crowded. This woman made the comment about how crowded the store was. Doing some thinking about it(Cmon, it does happen sometimes) I told her that people in Texas freak out whenever any kind of weather report that says anything about bad weather, especially snow, everyone goes into a survival mode and starts to stock up for hibernation, or in case they get a dusting on the ground, meaning that they can't make it down the driveway without spinning out of control . She looks at me and says, "Oh yeah they said it was going to snow, I forgot all about that, ,thanks" An she walks off. Lisa is, right now, in her recliner, covered up with a couple of blankets and 2 Dauchsunds smiling , because she knows if there is anything she needs, her husband drives a rig for a living and can drive in this stuff and get her whatever she need to make it through this difficult time. Also she knows nobody will be coming by to interrupt her football games. Ya'll be safe out there. Just had to share that. Walt

Growing up in the panhandle, we have our seasons of snow. It still amazes me when they say 6-8 inches of snow and people rush out to buy out all the bread and milk they can. I have only seen 4-6 times where we could not get out in 2 days. I usually have enough food in my house to last a week. Even when the boys were teenagers! Most of the time, we can be out and about in 24 hrs. Sometimes the snow-eater wind gets up and melts the snow faster than it had come down. Your wife is smarter than most and has a guy she can depend upon.

if you're really seriously worried about it getting too cold, the most important thing is to make sure you have good enough antifreeze in your radiator and engine. regular water expands when it freezes, and that'll crack your engine block!!! actually seen that happen to a guy in high school, one summer his car over heated and blew off his radiator hose. he filled it with regular water then forgot about it!! well, winter came, need i say anymore........

Well, they are talking about the snow starting to taper off. Knew it wouldn't last too long. Maybe Lisa will actually go outside for a second or two . Most people complain about the snow, but I drive for a living and see all kinds of stuff, especially in this kind of weather. Follies on Ice. Should be Idiots on Ice. They should take cameras out there and rate with scorecards how some of these folks drive in snow and ice. I'm not perfect by no means, but there are times when to gas it and when to slow the heck down. Some people think they need to be somewhere right now. I always say "If your in that much of a hurry, maybe you should have left a couple of days ago." In the warmer climates, a lot of people think they can drive like they normally do in good weather, but then something like this happens in the DFW area then they forget what to do then look surprised when they are going sideways or backwards and wonder what they did wrong. Oh well, thats why I slow down and let the people in a hurry go on by. ya'll be safe out there and keep it between the lines. Walt

Appreciate the concern, but no, I was just being a typical smart assed southern boy poking fun (And pity!) at those up north who hafta put their bikes away for 3 or more months at a time... Don't know how ya'll do it...

He's not serious, Alph. If it gets cold enough to break an engine block in Dallas/Fort Worth area we'll all be in really bad shape.
Serk, just walk by and say an encouraging word to her once or twice per day. You'll both make it through this.

The news / weather media have got most Atlantans running around like headless chickens. BUT At the large Chinese supermarket i went to this morning there were no evident signs of panic buying. http://www.yelp.com/biz/great-wall-supermarket-duluthAnother note. Most of the produce here is much cheaper than my local Kroger/Publix grocery stores. Yep, same if not better quality. The produce turnover is stunning. They have about 10 people working restocking the produce. I've never seen so many types of Bok Choy.
