There was discussion of a Big Bend trip, and a couple of meet-in-the-middle runs. Not to mention the Mid-Winter Gathering. (Hey, February is spring in Texas!) Is there interest in more?

The ride to the middle would be a great ride-in and we seem to have picked a couple of likely locations.
There is the GOTF April 1-3 at Hotglues that would certainly qualify. Even the Norwegians show up for that!

Typical of southern Texans, no clue as to what the 'true' north Texans have to endure! I have been in 15 ft of snow in several February blizzards in my lifetime. 1970, friend and I walked to the middle school and walked up the snow drift to the top of the gym. Uncle had house at north end of town and we could walk over his house on the snow. Year we bought this house, 2005, I spent more days shoveling snow for 12 weeks than we had clear roads.

I met John Wayne once.
It was 1967 and he was in Houston shooting Hell Fighters. I was in second grade at Meador Elementary on Beamer Road. We were learning to read and write.... remember Big Chief tablets? Evidently my teacher, Mrs. Dubberly sent examples of our "Dear John" handwriting examples to the Duke. One day without notice he arrived at the school... Hershey bars in hand... When I arrived home, my parents didn't believe me... so they called the school. Sure enough, the school secretary confirmed my story...
I had indeed, shaken hands with the Duke...

Zachry Engineering has several jobs available. Few jobs in Georgia too! Construction is looking for Project Managers. Construction should be ramping up for the power plant rebuild at Cape Canaveral.
godfire, hope you know that I am just joshin' ya! I have been working alongside engineers since 95 and EVERY time I mention that I work in an engineering firm, people want to know what my degree is. Usually tell them I have a Masters in BS, working on a Doctorate in Hard Knocks. When a pretty lady asks, I say I let the engineers do the work, then I come behind and fix the problems to make them look smarter. Have worked with some real genisus and a few jackwagons and I have been accused of both!

No offense taken my green brother. BTW you are doing a great job keeping the VRCC campfires burning in the panhandle. Wish I had a chance to make it up there and share some of that panhandle wind with you before I left the great state of Texas. Maybe someday. Ride Safe!

First, let me apologise for getting this off topic. Second, thanks for letting me ramble!
Texas is a great state with some of the best people!
Hoping to take some long weekends to attend some rides this year and meet some of the regulars.

Don't apologize - most of these strings get off topic about 2 replies in! I would think a great time to do a meetup ride might be if and when we go to Meer's Store for a Meersburger run. That is about a 4 hour ride for both, if my calculations are correct. RM

March is still Spring in Texas, Right? I really wanted to go to Big Bend w/US385South, but I had my work issue a command that I could not refuse. So my Son Isorg, came up with an alternate plan for Big Bend. March 24 thru the 28th. That's Thursday night thru Sunday night riding back on Monday, the 28th. Wow, what could be better than kicking back on the stone porch of a stucco cottage with a view of the courtyard and nearby mountains. Relax in rustic comfort in the hub of the Big Bend Region. Visit Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Lajitas and Terlingua, Sul Ross State University, Alpine, Marfa, Marathon, the Woodward Ranch, Ft. Davis, Davis Mountains State Park, McDonald Observatory and Balmorhea State Park easily from your headquarters at the Antelope Lodge! http://www.antelopelodge.com/There is a Concours group who have blocked a number of the rooms at the Lodge that will become 'unblocked' on Fegruary 24th. And I think that there are still some avialable. We have two suites that sleep at least four each in thier own bed. Six bikes are confirmend now and Two are two up so they won't be using the 'bunkhouse ' If anyone would like to come the more the merrier. We will be leaving Thursday morning from various places in Houstoh area and plan on makng Alpine that night. I love it! Of course McDuff will have some splaining to do, even though I am sure that he will enjoy himself. Don't let me fool you guys, I am stuck in the 60's but I have matured gracefully. Let's do it! Botar

The Meers Store is located on highway 115, 1 1/2 miles north of the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, Take I-44 to Hwy 49. Travel West about 4 miles, to Hwy 58. Turn to the North for about 5 miles to the turn-off to Meers (follow the signs). Now turn to the West for 4 miles and you're there. The town is Northwest Commanche, OK. Here's their website: http://www.meersstore.com/index.html

I am sorry you won't be able to make it that week... (03/12 thru 03/17) I really am not flexible on those dates because I am a school teacher... I pretty much have to go that week. If you guys need additional options on lodgings, try this place... http://www.crowsnestranch.com/This place is right up in the Davis Mountains right on the 166 scenic loop. They has three cabins that used to rent for $65 a night... they also have RV hook-ups and rustic camping with showers and bathrooms... an awesome place. Their website doesn't do this place justice... http://www.culleynet.com/galleries/new/places/images/011.jpghttp://www.culleynet.com/galleries/new/places/images/012.jpgThe Crow's Nest Rocks... and YES that is snow... taken in March of 2003!
