I got a large syringe with a 24” rubber tube, stand the tank on end, and suck the fuel out. I do this every year, and still am amazed at the crap I find in the bottom!!
You can get a large syringe from Wal-Greens, or any pharmacy. Rubber tubing from any auto store…… I have done this with the tank on the cycle, but I still feel that having the tank off the bike, and standing on one end so all the fuel goes to one corner is the easiest.
I do the same - and use a length of surgical tubing - neoprene - to fish into the bottom corner and siphon the last out. I also have a suction device that will suck on a hose when it's hooked up to compressed air - use that while wiggling the hose in the tank to collect what might be missed while siphoning. Then put in a piece of durable, absorbent paper toweling - the kind that holds together meant for reuse - wad it up, put it in the tank to absorb what remains - and of course, remove the wad. Then if I need it to be vapor free - put a hose in it hooked to my low-pressure regulator I use for airing my powdercoater - regulated at 10 lbs. Let that blow air into the bottom of the tank for 10 minutes. After that - I can't even smell gas in the tank. At this point, I'm ready to weld on the tank. But I still wait a while for more airing out. Superstitious probably.
