kinda reminds me of the old higfhway 71 here in arkansas between alma and fayetville  right scary,,since they widened it and then put in H-540 it isnt nearly as bad.Sure is a pretty ride.

slider, I've been there several times before they built 540.  Remember the sign at the bottom??  The last line always got me, something like, don't you be next.  I pulled a 53' up and down there a few times when I first started to drive trucks.  And without Jake brakes.  pucker factor of 9.5.  I remember coming out of Virginia and took a backroad.  At the request of the dispatcher, who has never drove a rig before.   One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made.  A couple of truckers over the CB asked me if I was empty.  I was and they said well I have a good chance of making it. I had to swing into oncoming traffic,(thankfully there was none) and met a Schneider going the same was, loaded.  Steep downhill and afterwards got down alright.  I called the dispatcher and told him I was on my way back to the yard and I was gonna put my foot up his a**.   tickedoff  When I got to the yard, he suddenly disappeared.  uglystupid2  I have had my share of hairpins.  Lotta fun on a Valkyrie though Grin

I visited my son several years ago in Switzerland. He drove us up the side of a mountain (high up) on the craziest switchbacks I've ever seen.......no guard rails......if you ever rolled from up towards the top, it would take 15 minutes to reach the bottom.......scary!!!

Back in 85' my mobile radar outfit took a trip (21 C141's) loaded to the gills from Florida out to China Lake for a 3 service exercise..after setting up bottom camp, 7 drivers were picked and all the radar and operations equipment was hauled up the mountain to the top..it was a ONE lane road, with directions determined by time of day and only us 7 drivers were allowed in the trucks..switchback were so tight, that with trailers attached to the 2 1/2 ton trucks we'd have to dig the front bumpers into the side of the mountain to keep the trailers on the road..at least we only had the trailers on during the first and last trip..worked 12 hour days, so we made two trips a day up and back...didn't like the trip down at all...but I'd wouldn't have the "b-lls" to take that road in the video..
