I am doing my carbs this winter and have decided to put in the 38 slow jets.  Would like a bit of input on the Factory Pro carb kits.  I have a 97 tourer, truck stacks, OEM air filter, 4 degree trigger wheel.
My first thought was to use kit #2, then looked at the #3 kit but never talked to anyone that used it.

What fast jets would you recommend (the kits come with several options) and why?

Is it worth it to go to the #3 kit and do the carb mods, or is this overkill,  is there a performance change that is noticable?

Does the change in jets change your gas milage? (alwasy an issue witht the Valk)

I recommend you have a dyno with exhaust gas analysis before you change anything.  You should understand what your mixture is before messing with it.

follow the card provided with the FP kit. they already did the dyno work. call Marc at FP, he will give u more details and tech than u will want to know. he knows things nobody else knows.

the only reason u need the 38s is due tp the ethanol in the gas, u have no airbox or exhaust mods.
cruise at hwy speeds will be using the pilot only, less than 1/4 throttle, if u are into the needle mpg will go down. 90-100mph hwy speeds its the needle, unless the pilot is 40 or larger.

with stock exhaust and airbox filter you do not need any carb kit....save your money.

If you put 6x6 and K&N, then a carb kit will improve your dyno results.

Clean the carbs well, put in new pilot o-rings, and 38s if you want and you will be fine.

My setup is almost like Mase and I would recommend it. I have 38 slow 110 mains baffle out on air box k&N no pre 4 degree wheel with interstate ICM Jardine exhaust lets see did I forget anything Roll Eyes Its a Factory Pro 2 kit and yes I did forget something I have a belly tank with the electric pump. I have the same jets installed in all carbs no variance. The bike really runs sweet and top end is no problem mileage can run around town 32 highway can be anything from 32 up to 46 Id say it averages 38/39. It has been consistent.

The “baffle” is actually part of the plenum induction system.  Without it, your factory velocity stacks won’t resonate the air properly, and you will lose power at certain RPS.  A dyno will show this.

This is how the Factory Pro stage 2 kit is recommended to be set up and I have only noticed good things, the smile factor is definitely there. Plus I think after doing a little playing myself it has less to do with resonances and more to do with vacuum. I to believed to take the baffle out was a no no but the way my bike runs if I had it to do over this would be one of the first things I do. Grin  There was a flat spot when accelerating at wide open throttle and that is gone, she pulls real hard all the way up to, well, lets just say I know the speedo is capable of moving the full range on the dial. It took awhile and some trial and effort but I am happy with the way the bike is set up. I can live with the gas mileage the power and even when cold I really dont have to use the choke, just start and go. One thing I do wish is that the Dyna ignition worked on my bike I really liked that unit and Oh I did forget one thing I do have the Dyna coils on my bike and the plug gap at 40. I also beat both my son and my son in law on their Harley's  Grin so that kinda sweetened the pot. considering my son has a full custom job and mine is a everyday rider. When we went to the keys I didn't have to fill as often as them either which was also nice.
