Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: January 20, 2011, 10:21:27 AM »

Took the day off and decided this would be a wonderful day to take my Interstate out and stir the fluids. This is one sweet machine it runs outstanding and rides like a dream.First picture is at the Old Grist Mill just before you get to beautiful Norris Lake.

Next couple pictures from below the dam.

Norris Dam was TVA's first project to help end The Great Depression ...Hard to believe  it's been here 75 years.Almost right in the middle of Norris Dam.

Next shots from the over-look...My Grand-Father started working for TVA when Norris Dam was being built he got on afterwards and worked 44 years here.Lucky 13 ( Gordon ) Grand-Father was killed during construction of this dam when he fell into a rock crusher...hellofa way to die  Sad  Click the link to read more about Norris Dam if interested   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norris_Dam_State_Park

Looks like a grand day for a ride.  That Interstate looks about as fine as an Interstate can look.

Hey!  You've got green grass.  Don't they know it's winter?

I was going to head on up into Kentucky today lucky for me I stopped at a local market and this dude told me they was slingin' that nasty brine all over the roads. They claim tonight we'll get anywhere from a dusting to 2 inches here in the valley with 3-5 inches in the mountains. Thanks for the comments. The green grass is rich river bottom land along the Clinch River.  As you well know sometimes I want to sell my Interstate sometimes I don't its a vicious cycle  Smiley  Today was one of them days I did not want to sell it as I toured the backroads around beautiful Norris Lake.

Great pics Joe, beautiful scenery made all the better with your Interstate in the pics. Thanks for sharing them.

Five fresh inches of snow here today and snow on the ground most of the time since the first part of December. I haven't been on the valk in a month or more.

Had a nightmare this past weekend that the weather finally broke and when I got out on the scooter I found out I had forgotten how to ride and was careening down the road like a blind drunk on a unicycle. Woke up sweating and pissed!! And no, I'm not kidding, wish I was.

I noticed your third picture down had "sky carp" in the background. Man, they are everywhere.

Ride on my friend and thanks again for sharing the pictures. It makes a long winter a little more bearable.  cooldude

Hey Joe, nice post.  I also got out for about 90 miles today, between crappy weather (snow and cold for the next two weeks).  Most of our inland water is frozen over up here.

I was riding my Interstate too.... the SuperValk..... (or the Interstate with the trunk, back seat and passenger pegs permanently removed)   LOL

BTW, is that a cut down stock shield?  How many inches off the 15.5"?

Did'nt measure Jess for the windshield cut I got on the bike and pointed where I wanted it and Lucky 13 drew a line . We used a round table he had in his basement for the pattern.I hate a windshield on a motorcycle always have always will but they have their place in the winter  Undecided to block some of that cold air.I remember that thread awhile back and yes you have a Interstate with the trunk removed  Wink

I can see it is a round cut.  Some just take a marker on a string (like a compass) and scribe a round line to cut.

Well, in cold weather I like the whole windshield with my half helmets.... but I have been wanting a cut-down shield for Summer for a few years.   Just haven't got 'round tuit.

BTW, I expect to hook up on the Marlinton WVa trip.

I've noticed several Interstates with the "sport cut" shield.

I used the FM antenna to define an arc from corner to corner.  If I remember correctly this is about eight inches above the garnish at the apex.  I'm 68 inches tall and I tend to slump in the saddle.  The shield offers ample weather protection and allows me to feel the wind.

It was.  You'll notice the downhill stretch leading to the overpass.  I shifted the machine into neutral and, due to the absence of the trunk, was able to push myself up off the saddle and over the rear of the motorcycle without disturbing the balance of the bike. I sprinted ahead and threw myself onto the pavement rolling onto my right side and capturing the shot with the camera in my left hand.

Sadly, after the shot, the front tire struck my outstretched right arm disturbing the momentum of the unmanned vehicle resulting in a tumble onto it's right side scarring the right engine guard and breaking my pelvis, left thumb and shattering my ribs on the right side.

The wind always blows in Kansas.   Wink

I think I loved that bike more than anything else I've ever owned.     :'(

Point of clarification:  I don't consider my spouse to be property.   Kiss

I tried a goose breast that was given to me by a fellow hunter years ago. Maybe I just cooked it wrong but I didn't like it at all. Tasted like liver to me, liver is a red meat I don't like.

I first heard them called sky carp by a local CO who helped teach the hunter safety class I took my grandson Mason to. The name fits as far as I'm concerned. Like carp, they breed quickly and not enough people want them on the dinner table.
