Hanging that much weight, that far back, without any wheels (other than the bikes wheels) to carry the load is going to make your front end much lighter and could cause issues. I am sure there is a weight limit on those carriers....

Man, that GL will be able to do wheelies for a mile at least. This is what happens when a fertile mind is left unchecked by either common sense or know-how! Sad actually!

on a 2 wheel Gold Wing, a hefty rider and co-rider, with just the gl1800 trunk and saddlebags packed, with also some of the most "needed" accessories for the bike can quickly reach the suggested weight limit.

Maybe if there was a way to put a different rear tire on there, rated for more weight, possibly with a squared off profile to help spread the load across a larger contact patch... Nah, I guess that's not possible.

I almost like this build better. That's what you call double in Oklahoma. Actual picture I took of the couple headed for Sturgis a couple years back. Raymond

Is that a HD trunk? The GL1800s look better with the same setup using take-off saddlebags left over from a trike conversion.
That setup looks like the trunk is farther to the rear than our pakit rak holds its luggage, but we had no problem with weight distribution affecting handling. Start with an 800 pound motorcycle (dry), put 350 lbs of people, another 50 pounds of gear spread around saddlebags, trunk, and trunk bag, and you're rolling 1,400 lbs or so. Another 25-30 pounds out back will not cause wheelies.
We did the Million Dollar Highway configured as above in the rain and hail and made it. Must have been the CT...

I have a basket type carrier similar to the ones shown at the very bottom of the link. Didn't cost near that much to build, thanks to Misfit. Have run over 15K miles on all kinds of roads. Never had any issues with it. Not likely to be able to put more than 50 lbs on it uless I fill it up with ammo.

http://vrcc.photostash.com/vrcc_31149/magna%20and%20trailer.jpgThis is the rig I used to have. A Glass Commander. Handles excellent at all speeds. Carried whatever I wanted. Even with the full size Igloo cooler up front, no problems. Wish I kept that one. It had plenty of room. The Wing looks really cool, but I wouldn't have it. Looks really custom, but after a while the road debris and whatever else comes up from the rear would eventually destroy it. Plus whatever jolts, vibrations, ect would do to it. Walt
