As a lot of you know I just bought a Valk and the seller was nice enough to give me a new hose cover that he never put on as well as some other stuff. I read some old posts about leaking and some even blowing off!! It isn't braided stainless and looks like the same that DL has pictured. I don't know what name brand it is, but read a certain brand was bad about blowing off. It might have been Big Bike Parts but not sure. Needless to say I'm scared to put it on. Any suggestions? Thanks

If it's a hose cover that uses the OEM hose you should be alright. The ones that blew off were and entire hose assembly with the fancy cover and ends included. I think they required the portion of the radiator end piece that covers the upper OEM hose clamp to be cut off. I can't recall the mfg either.

Is the kit you have the 'Show Chrome' hose cover... corrugated chrome tube and covers for each side of the hook up? If so, it does have a reputation of leaking.... from the end covers. It can be made to work, but I think you need to discard the hose clamps that came with the kit and substitute the best, biggest hose clamps that will fit. (This is from memory of a friend doing it some years ago.) This is the one I'm talking about.

That might be why he didn't put it on and they discontinued them. I know for fact he had it last July.

John, I hope it's just a hose cover. I haven't really had a chance to really look at it, but will this morning. I HOPE it's just a cover and and not the ones I read about on cruiser customizing reviews. If it's just a cover for the OEM, how could it leak. No directions but if it's just a cover I guess I'll take it off from the top and slide her down. If it's the other I've read about I'll leave it alone for now because I really want to ride Saturday. It's supposed to be sunny and 60...a real heatwave and I've got cabin fever! Lol

I experienced the hose popping off when installing mine 5 years ago. What I did was roughed up the water pump cover with some rough snad paper. This gave the hose something to grip to after being clamped. Has not come off since. You may also consider some type of RTV as this will help keep the hose on.

That picture is backwards. The lower hose is on the right side as you look at the front of the bike.

I took pictures of it but can't figure out how to upload them. From what I hear they leak and blow off. It looks identical to what Jess posted. It consists of the chrome flex cover, 2 chrome end caps, 2 large bushings in the caps and and what looks like 2 rubber couplings and slots in the chrome end caps for hose clamps. If anyone has done and can help, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks

(This is from memory of a friend doing it some years ago.) This is the one I'm talking about. That's the one I HAD. It blew off twice in one day. First time was right after the install, in my drive while warming up. I thought it was my fault. Then cleaned thoroughly and reinstalled. It dumped again several blocks from home. After monkeying with this "rig" and purchasing anti-freeze twice in one day, my decision was "It's not for me" It sure looks smart, but not all chrome will get you home. My thoughts for what it's worth...I don't care for covers either (look good) but the hose has a function and I want it to serve it's function. I like to be able to inspect my hose for cuts and abrasions or swelling. I find it difficult to do that with anything other than the Honda slinky (black or chrome) I also feel it may help in cooling to have airflow on my hose, can't prove that, just my thoughts. I know many use covers and probably the Show Chrome which I would throw in the trash. Just my experience

Tundra thanks so much for your personal experience so now I know not to put it on!! Also thanks to the other people that basiclly said the same thing. I wish I knew how to post a picture, the boards I'm familiar with like vtxoa.com are easier. I would like to show you exactly what I have. Maybe someone will share the basics so I can post it. Thanks again man!

I do not remember, or have directions for the install, as this was years ago. This is a great board, with some good knowledgeable folks, I'm sure someone will have the answers you are looking for. I wish you the best. Tundra

The best way to post a picture is to use a secondary source for the picture rather that your own personal computer storage files.
I use Photobucket!
When you transfer a picture from your file to Photobucket (which is free) you must have an account with Photobucket which is also free!
After all the preliminary work has been done and you now have the picture stored in your Photobucket account you are offered three or four types of means to transfer that photo. Each appears at the bottom of the photo and you simply copy the information offered for that photo and paste it into you reply here on the forum.
Always check in the review of your reply to insure the photo is appearing. If the photo does not appear simply copy the next information provided by Photobucket and repeat the process until you have copied the correct information and it shows up as a photo when you review your reply.
A little practice will produce the desired effect.

XGUY, it is certainly possible that if you directly contact Big Bike Parts ('Show Chrome' is also the name), they might be able to email you an electronic copy of the install instructions. I tried to open their site but could not. www.bigbikeparts.com/This might make it easier to sell, even if you do not install.
