My son's GF sent him here with a trunk load of guns. Her Father passed and she has to "get rid" of these guns. At first I thought they weren't worth much but now I see there is some money here... One of them is an MLE 1873 an Ithaca Model 100 A Remington 870 A Savage 110L .243 A Winchester 88 .308 A Marlin 336 Ruger target I So now I got elected to sell these for them. Might keep the Ithaca for myself, and maybe the 870...

don't under any circumstances take anyone up on an offer to buy any of them. Very bad things could happen.

Nice stuff.
Is the .243 Savage a lefty, or is the pic backward? (That is an outstanding flat shooting cartridge)

I've got a old Ithaca double barrel 12 ga. it was my Grand-father's as many of my guns in the safe was his.It has some nice engraving with birds/ducks . I showed it to a friend of mine one day and he offered me $600.00 for it. That made me research it and I found out it's worth between $1,000 / $1,200. Does the one in the picture have any engraving ( it makes them worth much more to collectors ) ? Is it a 20 or 12 ? It seems the 12ga is worth more from what I remember.I would never sell any of my guns in fact I'm tradin' a old utility trailer I bought for $100.00 for two pistols tomorrow if I get back from our ride in time .

It's a 20 gauge. There is some checkering on the wood, and some scrolling on the receiver...

Marlin 336 is good in 30/30.
Great in 35 caliber.
Had my 35 since the age of 12(38years)..
Have both and like both.
The 35 has had some smithing to it, and after a couple of machining errors corrected and a
new firing pin , he broke the original, and the trigger pull is to die for, good trigger pull man.
Will hit anything straight as the crow flies, long shots like 200 yds need a bit of elevation technique.
But 150 grain rounds help that problem.
Good looking collection.

My two youngest used to decide immediately which would get a new firearm I bought when I no longer needed it. I don't know if they still do or not. Out of my four children, they are the only two who still shoot and hunt, and only the youngest (The Duc Man) still rides although they all did as kids.

maybe I was wrong. Just thought I had read somewhere about someone getting in a lot of trouble with ATF on something like this.
Might be thinking about David Olofson, the guy who's AR15 malfunctioned at the range (The hammer didn't catch, and followed the bolt down, firing a few rounds in rapid succession), who then had our friends in uniform kick his door in and arrest him. Last I heard, he's still in jail for "transferring an unregistered machine gun" (He'd loaned the gun to someone to try out at the range) http://www.gunowners.com/olofson.htm(And if ya' wanna kick a few bucks in for his wife to help her make the mortgage payment while he's in the slammer go here - http://gunowners.org/olofson.htm ) However, none of the firearms Jeff has are any of those scary black rifles, so he should be fine... Hopefully... My two youngest used to decide immediately which would get a new firearm I bought when I no longer needed it. I don't know if they still do or not.
Out of my four children, they are the only two who still shoot and hunt, and only the youngest (The Duc Man) still rides although they all did as kids.
My 8 year old daughter is marginally interested in guns (The fact that I bought her her very own hot pink .22 when she was 4, and have pictures of her firing an AR15 when she was 6 (My shoulder, her control and trigger). But I'm hoping the fact that the spousal unit is currently pregnant with triplets will stack the odds a bit higher in my favor of having at least one kid really interested in KEEPING my collection instead of selling it... Sorry again Jeff for sidetracking this thread. Those are some VERY nice guns... If you were much closer my "Husband's secret cash stash" might be in danger right now!

maybe I was wrong. Just thought I had read somewhere about someone getting in a lot of trouble with ATF on something like this. There are two issues. 1. Being seen (and prosecuted) as an unlicensed dealer of forearms. Persons who engage in the business of buying or selling firearms must be licensed by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives of the U.S. Department of Justice. There is no "bright-line" test of how many firearms per year a non-FFL holder may sell before he is seen as an unlicensed dealer. The point is to not be seen as doing it for business purposes, but BATFE has made examples of some pretty small time people. Most problems have arisen at gun shows where non-FFL holders are selling multiple guns at a time. 2. The mechanics of lawful interstate transfers. An individual who does not possess a federal firearms license may not sell a firearm to a resident of another state without first transferring the firearm to a dealer in the purchaser`s state (there is an exception for curios and relics, antique firearms manufactured before 1898). Firearms received by bequest or intestate succession are exempt from those sections of the law which forbid the transfer, sale, delivery or transportation of firearms into a state other than the transferor`s state of residence (this just means you can bring them home from the guy who left them to you out of state) Firearms may not be mailed or shipped interstate from one non-FFL to another non-FFL. Personally owned rifles and shotguns may be mailed or shipped to an FFL in any state for any lawful purpose, including sale, repair, or customizing. If you do not have an FFL, you cannot legally use the USPS to ship handguns. Without the FFL, you have to use UPS or FedEx. That only applies to handguns. Long guns can be sent via USPS by anyone. (But I would use UPS or Fed EX even for long guns) Assuming the buyer gives you an address and FFL number, is there anyway to verify that it is legit? He needs to send you a SIGNED COPY not simply give you the number. A fax will do. You can then go on the BATFE website and verify it.

He has already stated that he is acting as an agent for the owner. Unless I missed it, he hasn't even come up with a value for the collection, much less started a transfer. To this point all is good.
When you get values and the owner decides to sell, then make sure your i's are dotted.
What is the Ruger target I??
A #1? Or a MK1 pistol?

Regarding the "across the state line" issues, what state are you in? (Where do I have to move to make a "legal" purchase?
Like everyone else here, I might have an interest... especially if the price is right (and especially if we can keep the federales from doing too much of that embarrassing "investigation.")
I'm left handed, so...
