I got a set of Cobra pipes from a guy who wrapped the baffles with fibreglass. I did not liked the sound and removed 3 baffles to remove the fibreglass, but the 4th one got stuck! Try as I may, I simply cannot yanked it out. I have been at it for 6 hours now and still it is stuck. It moves about 2 inches back and forth, but that is it. Any advice on how I can get it out.

Also, if I just leave the one baffle wrapped with the fibre-glass and remove the rest of it, will it affect the bike? In other words if there are more back pressure in some pipes, will that couse problems with the carbs, timing, performance etc?

go to the old archives and do a search on "stuck baffles" or "stuck cobra baffles"  there are several threads that might help.  Most involve WD40 and working the baffel back and forth after a good soaking.

I'm guessing that carbon has built up in front or back of it .... try spraying something in there that will dissolve the carbon

I had that same problem when I took my baffles out (to wrap them and quiet the bike down a bit), I used a pair of long nose vise grips and worked back and forth til they broke loose..spraying with some cleaner wouldn't hurt a thing..

The seach function does not seem to work. Nothing happens when you click the search icon. How do I get to the archives manually?

Yea,  had the vice grip on for the last few hours, it girps well, but it does not solve the problem - too stuck - the griping point on the baffle is already bend quite badly from all the pulling and wiggling - I am going to have a huge party when I get this baby out!

So can anybody tell me if it will make a difference on the bike if I keep some of the baffles wrapped and some not wrapped? Still cannot get the one out. (Applied WD40 - STILL NOTHING)

The old tech archive is a link at the top of the page right above the search box.  Just click on
"Old Tech Archive" and enter your search string.

Had a stuck baffle on the Cobras that came on the '99. The PO had pulled 5 of the baffles but could not get #6 out, so he just rammed a pipe up through the stuck baffle & bent all the "teeth" flat. I got it out by grabbing onto a bent up piece of the back part of the baffle with needle nose Vise Grips, attaching a big pair of Vise Grips to the needle nose set at a 90 degree angle & banging it out with a hammer. Worked real well. The PO gave me the 5 baffles so after repairing the stuck #6 baffle I put them back in.  cooldude
Good Luck!

BTW, I confirm TJ's observation. Even with one straight through baffle in & the other 5 wide open it sounded like poop & affected performance too.

got the bugger out - ended up putting a hook and chain on it with a 50lb dumbell at the end - rocked the dumbell back and forth - yanking the baffle everytime - took about 50 major yanks - a bit crude, but it worked!! Sounds pretty cool!

Too late to help here, But I used a drill and got it turning at a good speed and slowly backed it out. I think the friction heat helped loosen up the gunk. Glad your way worked though.

Sounds like a good plan! (even if after the fact - lol)

I figured out why mine were so stuck - the ringplate on back of the baffle were not welded on square with the body of the baffle, was off by about 5/6 degrees - caused it to dig into the exhaust pipe when being pulled outward. Filed it down - works nicely now.
