I'm planning on going for the first time. I would appreciate suggestions on where to stay and what to do. Any other Valk riders plan on being there?

Did you want hotel info or camping? I would take a tent and find the party ... but if you are looking for a hotel ... I have sometimes stayed at Holiday Inn at Town Lake. 6th Street will be as wild as wild can be. There are some hotels in downtown Austin but I never had the bucks to stay there. It's fun ... very hot ... but fun. enjoy.

It is one hell of a party! Some folks stay on the outskirts in Round Rock or Pflugerville. You can camp at the rally but won't get much sleep and its in a hot time of year here. I mostly go after sundown.

WOW great info for me, I have to be in San Antonio on the 12th. School gets out here in Florida on the 9th. I was wondering how to kill 3 days in a short 1,000 mile ride now I know. Thought about going to Texas by way of the smokies but I have made that ride before so I think I will head over and check out the rally.

This will be year seven in a row for me. Lot's of heat, bikes (40,000 in attendance last year), vendors (450) last year and "entertainment". Good music this year - Eddie Money on Friday night, The Doobie Brothers on Sat. My first year I stayed in a hotel and missed a lot of the rally. Now we camp and enjoy it all. I take a generator/fans, food (they are really proud of their food and drink, ie $$$, that's fairgrounds not the rally), canopy for shade, etc. Party kicks off on Thursday morning and lasts til way into Sunday morning. Get's quiet about 3a and starts again by 7 every day so don't plan on lots of sleep. $70 at the gate this year, cheaper if you register online and you get a t-shirt online. That includes the concerts. If you wanna hook up, would love to meet you. Look for a orange/black std, a black std, and a rebel 250 with a voyager kit. That's my dad's. He is 86 and makes every rally I make (that is one per month from March til Oct). We can chat as the time gets closer and set meeting places if you want. It is worth the effort if you like that sort of thing. L
