I have never known of this to happen before, but Interstate 70 has been shut down stretching from Kansas City all the way to St. Louis!  Shocked This is one heck of a storm here!  We have over 11 inches and it is still coming down hard!  Undecided

We have had I-80 shut down twice today, both directions,  due to multi semi, cage all in one accident.    1st one no injuries, 2nd one there must have been some as I heard the call for a couple of meat wagons.

Highway Patrol is being very hush hush about both of them.

I heard a rumble that 6 semi's was in the 1st one with 3 cages, and the 2nd one had 4 cages and 4 semi's.

I chased a part for the kid and the I/state was like a skating rink.   I got off of it and hit the city streets as soon as I could.     My butt was on pins and needles and I'm used to driving in this crap.

Because the ability to drive in adverse weather used to be a sense of pride! Now they dont know what lane to drive in or how the Gov't is going to come save them. Storms like this were common before I could drive (I'm 36 as of Dec.) and I remember the only concern was if we should have bought new wiper blades (for the 10yr old 2wd sedan) at the last stop. Now the AWD SUV just isnt enough...

It's kind of curious that 9 out of 10 vehicles in the ditch are either AWD or 4WD.  uglystupid2
So much for that!   Roll Eyes

Years ago I was down in Texas visiting some friends at Christmas time.  They had one of their freezing rain storms and everything was covered in about an inch and a half of ice.  I chained up my car and headed out to make some visits.  I was the only car on the road that night and had no problem at all.  Got some strange looks when I went by some LEO's stuck on the side of the road.

Cleared 6 inches off the truck this morning @6 AM....nothing plowed - not even the freeway - except a few major streets in town. Fine powder, relatively heavy for as cold as it is...packed by wind, I imagine. Didn't think I was going to make it off my street for a bit there but here I am. No snow days at work for me   Cry  meh...no biggy but I sure wish my POS GM 4WD hadn't bit the dust.

Y'all are getting hit a bit worse than we are. We'll probably end up with about 8"-14" of beautiful powder up here. All you folks with sleds need to get on up here and spend some money! The local economy needs you.  Cheesy Just don't drive until the main roads are clear....it's a bear out there!

I want to thank my southern friends for taking this one for us. It stayed south of MN, winds and drifts but no snow.

I'd like to say you're welcome, but my integrity and selfish nature prohibit.

We got aver a foot of the fine blowing powder.  I'm just not accustomed to that stuff.  A whole lot of it is still on the driveway.

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.

I couldn't get out of the driveway yesterday - we had a little over 9 inches but allot of drifts that were 2+ feet deep. My drive is about a city block long and several places the drifting was just to bad to make it through.
Then this morning bitter biter cold: -6 without wind chill. The old truck did not want to turn over but she did it.
It'll be a while before the drive clears enough for me to get the Valk out :-(
