Well, not much interest in buying my Interstate, soooo...... I wanted to sell it and buy a standard, spend the difference on some performance. I guess I will take off the trunk, rails, bags, seat and shocks. Can I remove the pods? I want to create the Standard look, add some oomph and I guess I could auction my stuff I won't be useing. I want to know if anyone else has done this or seen one done.
Thanks alot,

You will have to deal with removing the fairing and changing to standard guages if you really want the look of a standard, if you dont do that what you are basically building is a "super valk" which has been done many times

If you remove the pods, you will need new engine guards as the I/S guards have the pod mounts on them.  Also you will need to trim the air dam that goes behind the radiator, it extends out into the pods, and then you will have to figure out how to dress up the ends of the radiator, it also has pod mount bosses on it.  Removing the faring creates another boondoggle with wireing, light, and guage changes, If you go with the Std/Tour guages, you will have to change the speedo drive.  I think the Super Valk mod would be much less headache.  If you are determined to go Standard, and cant sell your I/S, maybe you can find someone that would be glad to trade.   Another option that I dont like,  and it would take a little time to do is to part out the I/S and just buy a Std.  There are a few doing just that, buying Valks and parting them for more than they could sell the whole bike for.  I would think that it wouldnt be too hard to sell the I/S if its decent and you are not overvalueing it, and I have seen some real deals lately on Standards.

Here's a thought Bill...Post a " Trade " on the VRCC classifieds you should be able to score a nice low mile Standard or Tourer loaded with cool chrome goodies for a Interstate.Send me a picture of it with details I have a bike already blinged out with custom paint I might trade.
