With the winter storm warning, ice and snow and dipping temps, Houston has become an icy semi-deserted mess.  The airports , mass transit, toll-roads, ferry systems, school districts, govt offices and many business are shut down today.  I'm at home for the third day this week myself.  Here's a video from a local radio personality poking fun at ourselves.  You northerners will poke more fun at us I'm sure.  Have at it!

hahaha.......I'm from Houston area....born and raised......this is about right......I'm 60 and really and truly don't know how to drive in ice and snow.     I drove to work this morning from Tomball to Downtown Houston.  Normal 50 minute drive took 2hrs 15 minutes.     saw multiple wrecks as they happened.....we just don't know how to drive in this stuff

Nobody knows how to drive on ice. After you find out that stuff just won't go on ice,
you quit trying...

It is the different kinds of snow that you have to learn that you can/cannot drive on.

Our local news here in Pittsburgh is reporting "severe" weather in North Texas..... and although it might not seem severe to some of us here in the northern areas, I bet they are not equipped for snow and ice removal (ie salt, brine and other melting methods along with snow plows etc etc).

And now they reported ice sliding off the stadium and hurting some people down there??  Hmmm.. I would clear the area below and get a news or police chopper to hover over the stadium to facilitate snow/ice removal and press on with Super Bowl preps.....

We don't have snowplows......  but the hype with the weather here is crazy!!!!  Last night we got down to 29*.... woooooooooo
.... a little freezing rain that melted when it hit the ground......  The overpasses froze.... and there are MILES of them here... Many elevated roads.....  just don't go on them....
Bummer..... I mowed the yard yesterday hoping we would get some snow.... and didn't want the grass sticking up through it for the pictures.....Nothing Angry

Amen to that!  Studded tires might work on ice, but why...
