Am wondering if an Interstate fairing will go onto a Standard without having to rewrite the laws of physics? If the current circuit can't handle 2 headlights, I can modify that. What about bags? Will they fit on a Standard? And can the alternator handle the additional headlight, radio (and is there anything else on an interstate?)
Mamma loves the Valk, but wants just a few of the creature comforts of a wing, like a back seat with armrests, music, footboards......... I don't really care much about the bigger gas tank.
I don't like the looks of most aftermarket fairings, but I love the one on Interstates. Not sure what way to go with this. Might be easier to just buy an Interstate and sell the Standard.
Any input is appreciated.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Time and $$ it would be better to buy the interstate. There is a frame mount that holds the oem fairing to the bike. Not to mention the electronics for gauges, radio, etc. Be cheaper to slap a woody on the front. Get a wider backrest and slap some floor boards on it. Yes oem bags will fit but you need all the mounting stuff for it. Again, high dollar.

Don't know if you've had an opportunity to read some of the newer posts about parts for sale on E-bay, but I/S parts are getting pretty ridiculous. You could easily spend $5K just on the trunk, pods, bags, fairing, radio, and CB. That does not include shipping, painting, or the time it would take to track down some of those parts.
Best bet would be to sell the Standard and buy an I/S.

Kaiser is right. I too wanted to make my Standard into an IS UNTIL I went online and priced the fairing and all I needed. The prices are too rich for my blood! Yes, a person would come out better buying an IS. I looked for a long time and never could find one at a decent price and if I did it had super high mileage. Sooo I bought a Standard with very low miles lots of extras including Cobras 6-6 that has been well maintained and is showroom! So as someone has mentioned, I'm thinking of putting on an aftermarket fairing, possibally a Woodys, and good aftermarket hardbags, trunk and everything else. Yeah, Momma wants the Lazy boy on back too!

And here I went and took the standard for a spin without the windshield. Shouldn't have done that. Don't want to put it back on now.
I'll give in to that in a month or two when the Lovebugs come out...... yuck

Just buy a cheep Interstate, and sell your bike , just like getting it free, I have one in the classifieds that runs great, it does have a few miles 83000 +- a few, just a thought. I really dont think thats to many miles for a valk. lot's of miles left. Just a thought.

The fairing bolts right up. The instruments are the hang up. Just a little rewiring and a couple relays take care of headlight. KingBee did a NICE conversion,I have his old fairing but have not mounted tach and speedo. He modified the standard/tourer gauges into the IS dash and it looked really nice and clean. The throttle cables are different too and I know nothing about converting the radio and controls..probably tons of headache there.
