Ordered a V rated General altimax HP from the "tire rack" yesterday. This will be my 2'nd try with this tire. The first one got a hole in the sidewall during mounting last summer and I wound up with a Avon in it's place since I needed a tire mounted fast.

The avon has been OK but I'm looking forward to getting back to a car tire. The Altimax is back ordered till the end of March. WTH? I waited a month on one last year too. Must be a popular tire or a slow manufacturing plant.

Man, I'll be glad when this glacier in my yard and driveway thaws.

Huh. I bought my Altimax off the shelf last May. I am not a huge fan. I like my Falken CT better. I'll stay a Darksider, but I will look for a different tire next time. Trouble is, splitting miles between 2 bikes makes for a LONG time between tire changes.

There is a bike shoP in south Indy that will mount it for you.

Big Boy Customs. And it's NOT a HD only sort of shop.

OK, I'm just asking-----why that tire? I put a yokahama on from discount tire direct and that is what I'll put on next time. 100.00 bucks. It still looks new after 5000 miles and rides great. just asking??

I put 50,000 and some odd miles two GY TT and was happy with the traction but wanted something with rounder shoulders and a higher speed rating. With the TT I had a swim or wobble that would start at 105 and got worse above that. Doesn't do it with the Avon that's on it now.

I liked the way the Altimax seemed to conform to the road in the video that was posted here a while back and decided to try it. Wanting to stay with a 60 profile limits my choices somewhat. I don't want the higher RPM's of a 55 profile and I'm too short for a 65 profile tire.

About that swim/wobble you had at 105 with your car tire.

I had the same wobble above 100 with my car tire,
gave me a good scare, tried all the arm/shoulder steadying
that I could, nuthin, kept wobbling. Asked on this board
what gives, a few guys said try replacing the top bushings
on the rear shocks.
Took off the rear shocks and hey, the bushings were Fubar.

Got new bushings, reassembled, took her out on our big
super slab, got to at least 115, wobble gone.

Wish it had worked out that way for me. New bushings, new 440 shocks, rebuilt forks, new wheel bearings all the way around twice, new headset bearings and went through several front tires. Still the high-speed wobble.

The new suspension greatly improved the handling and ride and was well worth doing, the fork seals needed replaced anyway as did the head-set bearings so it wasn't a waste of time/money but none had any effect on the high-speed wobble.

Not a big deal anyway, don't hit those speed too often.

What do ya carry for air pressure?

My GoodYear TT goes at 36#, the front Metzler goes at 44#, and I have no wobble to MGM's top end.

38-40 in the TT and 40-42 in front with the Avons. It could even be the combo of my clear faring and the TT. Nother funny thing about it. With a rider, T bag and a weeks worth of luggage, no wobble up to 120 or so. Funny little female fists banging me on the back though. Wink

I had exactly the same scenario happen last summer.  Replaced the upper shock bushings and brought the CT pressure up to 37#.  It seems to handle better, but I still haven't raked up the nerve to ring her out again since I damn-near went off into the weeds at around 105 mph.  Less than a foot of pavement left before it would move back to the left.  I haven't backed off any on my normal cruise speeds and an occasional burst up to 90+, but everyone else can have those triple digits from now on.  I have an old blue airplane that goes fast...JTL  uglystupid2
