great stuff!
wonder the cost, so many different F 1 tracks.
The sound alone made it worth watching-there is a difference between the eights and twelves.

That was cool!  If you ever get the chance to go to a F1 race.  Drop EVERYTHING and go!

A long time ago, here in Eau Claire, the local billionaire use to race formula one cars and I had the privilege of sitting in one of the cars!!  It was at a chevy/toyota dealer getting something done (don't know what) so I snuck over and squeezed into the driver’s seat.  Wow, what a nice snug fit!!  Low to the ground, just awesome!!  Wish I had one.

That billionaire later switched to nascar, to me there's nothing exciting about turning left all the time......  give me my twisting roads any day!!

The sound difference has more to do with the RPM, not the number of cylinders.  Those newer engines spin at 18,000+ RPM!

Snug doesn't BEGIN to describe it! Of course, I'm a little larger than the average Indy Car driver, was surprised I fit at all... Hehehe...

don't ever believe for one minute that an eight doesn't sound different than a twelve-no matter the rpm.  There is a different sound in any/all engines depending on the number of cylinders, 1,2,3,4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 16; blown and/or unblown.
I have to be shown that an F1 engine (by any manufacturer) turns anywhere near 18000 rpm. I'm kinda skeptical about that statement, but willing to learn.

I'm NOT an expert, but was curious so googled on it a bit:

Quote
The 2009 season limited engines to 18,000 rpm, in order to improve engine reliability and cut costs down.

http://www.f1technical.net/articles/4

And on this page McLaren claims their is/was capable of 19,000 RPM:

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2008/1/7232.html

Wow... Amazing they can get valves to operate at those RPM's!

Of course, the Honda CBR600rr is a street legal bike ya' can go get at your dealer with a warranty and everything that maxes out at 15,000 RPM! (And I look REALLLLLLLY funny on one of THOSE!)

Good job on the research. 18000 rpm limit to keep costs down! How much could they save if only 10000?
Always glad to learn new stuff-even non Valk stuff.
