I am in the process of making my own set of Rivco Spot brackets.
I am at the point I need to pick out a lamp assmbly.
I purchased some 4.5 bulbs, LAPD surplus landing lamps.
And I bought a set of Cobra shells off HDL. My problem is I dont know how the bulbs are held in.
They fit perfect in the outter ring but there is nothing to hold them there. There is a slot in the outter ring that corresponds with the tab in the bulb. I thinkin there is a retainer ring or something I am missing. I have never had a set of lights like this before.
The shells consistent of the shell, and the outter ring and some wires. Thats it.
Thanks for your help

$45 + shipping and then you're stuck with H3 bulbs - don't get to use your A/C landing lights you already have - MUCH brighter than H3's for the same watts. Better focus on the reflectors. You're better off with the shells from JCWhitney which do fit the A/C lights, and cost only $26.99. well the JC Whitneys are plan B. Since I have the cobras I am going to pursue the clips that hold the bulb in place. I also have a email into HDL to see if they can help. Cobra recommended I buy an assembly. The Cobras were on clearance so I think I am stuck with them. HDL should have been more specific and stated the need additional hardware to retain the bulbs, Cobra said that when they sell them they sell them as replacements and you should use the hardware off your damaged ones..

F6 - I replaced them on my Cobra's with a different style. You are welcome to the pieces you need off mine - in fact, you can have the lights all together. the inside is rusted, but the outside isn't too bad. If I recall, the lamps aren't there, but the wires that hold them in, are. I'll check tomorrow when I get home. Could ship in a flat-rate box, for $10.95 if you wanted both lights, or probably just a few bucks, in a padded envelope, if you just want the wires that hold the lamps in... PM me, if you want, and we'll get them to you. These are what I replaced them with...

I also replaced my original Cobra lamps, but I still have the old shells as well as extra landing lights if you need them.

$45 + shipping and then you're stuck with H3 bulbs What in the world is wrong with H3 bulbs......they are (both together) as bright as my Xtravision Sylvania healdight, effectively doubling the light on the road. I bought replacements to have just in case at J&P cycles last time I was in Daytona. The bulbs were like 4 something each. Havent needed to replace one yet, and its been well over a year now, and mine are on all the time and I ride just about every day. No complaints here

A member here sent me and old set of Cobras for use for the clips to hold the sealed beams in. He had mentioned that he had some emails stating that there were some more folks out there with the same dilemma. After I looked at the clips I thought I could bend up a set myself. I had a mangled old coat hanger and a pair of pliers and the clip Roger sent me for a guide. I spent about a minute on it and it looks ugly, but it holds the light in very securely. I think if you are missing the clip you could use the photo for a guide and a coat hanger and you would be in business in short order. I have sample photos of the clip and my poor but effective attemp if anyone is interested. Also, I have the remaining Cobra shells , bulbs and rings if anyone would want them. Thanks Roger. I hope I can return the favor one day.

There's nothing wrong with H3's, but come on man, aircraft lights, that's my kind of lighting!
