So today while cleaning the bike I found a dry rotted hose on the bottom of one carb.  I'm guessing this is the drain hose.  It goes from the carb into a 6 way "splitter".  i replaced the hose with a new one from the auto store. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should do to prevent any further problems with the carb or if it's A OK now... Thanks for any more help!

If your 100% sure it came from the Lowest point (bottom) of the carb actually the side of the bowl you did just fine by replacing it. cooldude

You might consider just going ahead and replacing all of them now while it is on your mind but it shouldn't hurt anything to leave them as they are for now.

Sounds like the drain hose.  You only need them when you drain the carbs so that the gas doesn't spill on to the top of the motor.  If that hose is trash, you should check and/or replace all your hoses for preventative maintenance.  Good time to desmog if your considering it.  The hose from #3 to #4 carb and the hose from #6 carb to the petcock are important and you should check them before you hit the road with your brother.
If they ain't broke don't fix em, but get some hose and bring it with you, won't hurt.

Our Valks have been equipped with a secondary air supply system in order to reduce engine emissions .
Whenever there is a negative pressure pulse in the exhaust system (i.e.: when you close the throttle), fresh air is drawn into the exhaust port in order to promote burning of unburned exhaust gases.
This is fine until you experience an increase in rapid, annoying, popping/gurgling sounds when throttling down. With aftermarket exhaust systems, glass pack mods, etc., lower backpressure seems to make this annoyance even worse.
A permanent fix to this is the removal of the PAIR (Pulse Secondary AIR Injection) system as shown below.
The fuel mileage, power or general engine running will not be affected by this mod. However clutter on the engine and also annoying snap, crackle and pops will be history.
This is from the VRCC "Shop Talk" page under "De-smog your Valk".  Go there and you can decide if it's something your interested in doing.  I've done both of my Valks a little different so that if I ever have to, I can reverse it.

AND just in case. don't trow away the parts you take off.

IF you ever need to replace them(thinks emission testing starting on MC) they are expensive to replace.

Well, at least they are not expensive now, but if emission testing comes in somewhere, they will be!
