I was riding home last night and a couple of times I heard and felt a grinding/growling sound coming from my Valk.  I haven't had time to put it on the center stand and check the wheel bearings. This weekend after I get home from a trip in my truck to see the family I will do that.

I am hopeing that it is just a wheel bearing but it sounds much deeper and worse.  Could it be the U-joint?  It almost feels like it is in the transmission.  I have had the fluids changed regularly by the dealer, other than the oil which I change every 3,000 miles.  The mileage is 93,000 plus.

Any suggestions?  With spring here it is time for more serious riding.

Odds are you have some splines going south.  Either final drive or driveshaft.   I would pull the rear tire and pumpkin and inspect both.

You can inspect the universal by pulling back the rubber boot and using a flashlight.  With the bike on a lift and turning the wheel it's a good way for a quick look.
