Hi, I am wanting a heel/toe shifter with floorboards and want to know how much lower my boards will be under my shifter. If anyone has a combination similar to what I'm talking about, can you post a pic?
Thanks

Thanks  cooldudehttp://vrcc.photostash.com/vrcc_32669/S6300899.JPG

This is a photo of Cobra Floorboards with Chet's "Kick Shifter"

This photo is using Kurry Iso Wings:

I am currently using the Cobra set up. Chet also offers a "Peg relocation kit" to lower the board which I am not using.
Been using the kick shift for 10 years and the cobra's fot about 7 with no problems.

Thanks a lot Capt! I don't know how it happened but you answered before I even posted! Lol That looks exactly what I need. How much lower are the boards than the factory peg? Also do they drag pretty easy in the twisties?

Using the OE mounts, floorboards are at the same level as OE pegs (unless the boards are fatter than the OE pegs, but I don't think so because the OE pegs have feelers underneath and boards do not.

Still, because the boards are just a bit wider than OE pegs, they do tend to touch down just a bit sooner than OE pegs.  I have cobras and kickshifter on both IS's and the bottom edges of my boards are ground off at 45 degrees.  You get used to it in hard turns and there is really no danger, as the boards fold up on contact.  It will startle you as your lowside foot bounces up with contact on occassion, but it is no big deal.  My bikes go WAY over with this setup.

Lowering the pegs or floorboards does limit the lean, and I wouldn't do it.   If you're too tall and legs too long, get a King boy or seat cushion and raise the seat.

Thanks Jess, That's exactly what I want! Do the boards bolt right where the factory peg is?

Thanks Smiley

I got my heal toe shifter off of eBay.  I love ‘em.  I can’t think of anything bad about ‘em, other then some times I’ll accidently down shift instead of up shift when getting onto the expressway.

Jess, you just answered all my questions especially about the relocator kit cause I sure don't want to be any lower! You look like you have the classic Cobras and not the swept.

As far as hitting the boards I'm used to that! When I'm in the twisties on my VTX, my boards throw out more sparks than a side grinder! Grin Yeah When I first got my X and the floorboards scrubed, It felt kinda like electricity and sure woke me up! Lol  2funny BTW, my bro- in law went around a curve on his Valk scraped his toe and his foot almost went under his peg. I told if he had boards his toe wouldn't be pointed towards the ground.

Well it's gonna be another beautiful day here so I'm getting off the board and going for a spin. cooldude
Thanks

I run the same thing as Capt Morgan.

I have one of the 1st shifters that was built and to date, have never had a problem with it.   It has taken some pretty hard snap shifts, especially when I was running it at the drag strip........

I have the nuts for spacers instead of those nice neat chrome ones in the kit now.   Figured why change them out, it ain't broke so no mess with it.

Don't have any pictures and MGM is buried too deep in the back of the garage to go get one.   Especially a good one.

PS:    Nuts were used for spacers in the 1st kits..   They came with the nuts.

That is a years-out-of-production Kuryakyn. ('05?)

BTW, speaking of toe-down-on-peg drag.... because of the limited space on the cobras boards (yeah I like traditional over swept), due to the space available on the valk, my shift foot sits on an angle on the board full time, and I only have 8 1/2's.  So diving into a hard left, I occasionally have the ground grab my left toe off the board, since in that position it is outboard of the board.

Indeed when Cobra first issued boards for valk, they simply adapted a passenger board to the driver position.  No other Cobra driver board is as small.

they're Kuryakyn.  like jess says, way out of production!!  i've never seen any like them since.  they match the front foot pegs nicely, can't see 'em in this picture.  one of these summers i've got to take better pictures......

Oh lordy lordy, when ya get the shifter installed, if your boot does not fit under the valve cover, remove the locking bolt on the shifter, one hooked to the shaft coming out of the block, then move it a notch or two to accommodate your big meat hook.       I think it was one notch up for me, later,  I went & got a different model bikes lever, runs in my mind it was ST1000 or something along that line, installed it and it has been good to go ever since.

Hopefully someone will jump in here and correct me on the lever I got.   It was posted on this board several times, but a search didn't bring it up.  Sorry.

What RJ said...move the shifter up one spline on it's shaft.  The floorboard is much more comfortable than pegs, especially for distance.... but there is a large group of lifetime peg riders who do not like floorboards.  I can physically fit all of my 8 1/2 foot on the board, but it is a tight fit, and I generally ride with my toes off the board at 10 O'clock.  You will do the same with 13s, it ain't no big thang.  I have been on boards for over 25, and I just don't like pegs... I get cramps in my feet from them after a few hours.  I also like to stand up on the boards and ride, at 5'9" I am the perfect height to stand and still control the bike perfectly, including shifts.

I'm one of those.  I can't stand boards on a bike.  I can barely put up with them on my civic.

I just don't like the feel of not being able to rotate my foot at will.  I have no use for kick shifters either.

I KNOW I'll love it! I'm just the opposite than willow and others. About all the cruisers I've ever owned had boards including my VTX 1800R which I have now. So it's second nature for me and  just a matter of personal choice.

Alpf that's got to be the best looking hee/toe shifter EVER- IMO!! I wonder why Kury discontinued it? Since you love yours so much, there must be no problems with them. I reckon it's a matter of supply and demand....and there must not have been much of a demand. Seems the vast majority on this board and the GW boards don't like them and like to ride upright. I guess they never owned any cruisers with factory boards and heel/ toe shifters!  Back in the day I think the only H/T shifter was on an old ugly Electra Glide-(IMO) with hard bags as big as the size of a dorm refrigerator! I never had one until 2002 So it took me a while to get used to a H/T but am spoiled now. I got a VTX 1800 with factory boards and H/Tand the key is on the opposite side of the Valk. So with my new baby, I have to always be concious to use my toe to upshiht and sometimes my heel will be kicking the air! 2funny
If you or anyone reading this know where I can find a Kury, let me know. I love the design!
Thanks, Tony
